Egnyte announces new capabilities for BIM file collaboration and an expansion of AEC workflows for project delivery and closeout

Egnyte, leader in cloud content security and governance, has introduced several new capabilities for BIM file collaboration to its Egnyte for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction product offering.

The details of the AEC expansion were announced at Egnyte’s AEC Leadership Summit, the company’s virtual event for discussing data management in the AEC industry. This includes improved BIM file process support; enhanced integration with Procore; and leading construction management software.

Integrating practices and solutions into everyday work

During the opening keynote, Egnyte’s vice president of AEC Ronen Vengosh explained how practices adopted during the pandemic are now integrated into everyday business. BIM solutions are also increasingly interwoven across the project lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and operation. As a result, there has been an explosion of digital data in the industry.

“On average, Egnyte’s AEC customers have seen a 31% CAGR for the amount of data stored from 2017 to 2021,” said Vengosh. “The new offerings introduced will help our AEC customers maximise the value of all that data, while not sacrificing on security – keeping potential threats like ransomware at bay.”

What exactly will the BIM file collaboration offer?

  • BIM file search allows teams to search both on and “inside” specialised BIM files to find the right documents quickly
  • BIM file preview allows the user to preview files without the need for specialised software. This enables quick rotation, zoom, and measure within the file
  • Improved project lifecycle management will improve close out projects and revoke unnecessary permissions to project content upon completion
  • Expanded Procore integration will enable near real-time continuous sync which means faster access to files and improved collaboration between organisations and within internal teams

In addition, Egnyte announced that following research that revealed AEC firms are twice as likely to suffer from a ransomware attack than other industries, its Advanced Ransomware Detection and Recovery capabilities are included in all Egnyte for AEC plans. This means should an attack occur, Egnyte for AEC customers will now be able to restore lost data with just a few clicks.
