BRE announces date for new BIM course

A new course aimed at help public and private sector clients to implement and utilise BIM has been launched by the BRE Academy…

The BRE Academy has revealed dates for a new course that will help clients to understand and exploit the benefits of building information modelling (BIM) throughout the lifecycle of a project.

BIM is fast becoming an intrinsic part of the construction process, saving time, money and resources. Earlier this year, the government mandated that all public sector projects must incorporate the use of BIM Level 2.

The BRE Academy course will give construction clients an understanding of how BIM works, including processes, procedures, and terminology. This will enable firms to work more efficiently to procure, construct, and manage their assets.

BRE Academy Director Pauline Traetto said: “To date BIM training has focused on the supply chain – the architects, engineers and contractors involved with designing and constructing buildings and infrastructure but actually it’s critical that clients  – who are responsible for procuring over £80 billion worth of buildings and infrastructure every year – better understand BIM because they can use it to influence the supply chain, deliver projects more effectively and efficiently and in the process become better clients.”

The course, which spans two days, uses practical examples and case studies to impart information to attendees. It looks at the following topics:

  • BIM business drivers and outcomes
  • HMG Government construction strategy and BIM Level 2
  • Organisation, asset, & project information requirements
  • Government soft landings
  • Commercial and procurement considerations, employers information requirements
  • BIM execution plan assessment & contract award
  • Review and authorisation of the common data environment (CDE) information

The first course will be held at BRE in Watford on 13 and 14 October. From this course, attendees will be able to take further BIM proficiency training or become members of the BIM network group.
