NHBC has announced the roll-out of a new technology assisted inspection app to help improve construction quality

The new technology assisted inspection app is being introduced by NHBC’s inspection team and represents the first stage in the evolution of its technical risk management strategy.

The technology assisted inspection app allows site managers to upload photographs for review. This will capture images of ‘live’ construction, allowing NHBC to work with the industry more efficiently, and ensuring housebuilders continue work on-site following a digital review and feedback.

NHBC building inspectors will also be providing onsite training to site management teams, starting in February, with the new app in addition to the usual key stage inspections.

‘Continue to improve new home quality’

Commenting on the launch, Diane Marshall, NHBC’s operations director said: “We have spent many months piloting the app within the sector and new hope that it will bring a raft of benefits to site managers, with the overall aim of continuing the improvement of construction quality across the housebuilding industry.

“In our pilot project undertaken last year, 91% of site managers rated the app as easy to use, while it also helps create a useful audit trail tracking on-site activity.

“As ever, construction quality is central to everything NHBC does and by embracing this new technology we will continue to improve new home quality for the benefit of consumers.”
