Southvale Building Control

Southvale Building Control is responsible for inspecting work covered by the building regulations as part of the South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Planning Team. Here, we explain how to ensure your project runs smoothly.

Building regulations set minimum standards to ensure buildings people live in, work in or visit every day are well constructed, safe, fuel efficient and provide a healthy environment. They also ensure that facilities are provided for people, including those with disabilities, to access and move around buildings.

With over 100 years’ experience in the construction industry, the team at Southvale Building Control cover everything from the erection or extension of a building and alterations that temporarily or permanently affect a building to the insertion of cavity wall insulation, the underpinning of foundations or a change in a building’s fundamental use.

The team’s surveyors and structural engineers are experienced in all forms of construction, including residential, commercial and new build. They also have extensive local knowledge and understanding of ground conditions throughout the district. By providing general advice, plan checks and site inspections, they work to resolve any issues quickly to avoid delays to customers’ projects.

Southvale Building Control’s surveyors and structural engineers are backed by technical support staff, who have achieved or are training to achieve accreditation by the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). They aim to turnaround applications within 48 hours, with 90% registered within 24 hours of being deposited.

As part of a policy of developing its own staff, Southvale Building Control also has trainee surveyors, who are working to become members of CABE/RICS. With support from the team’s surveyors, they undertake site visits and plan checks, while also working towards Local Authority Building Control (LABC) plan checking qualifications.

This ebook contains a detailed overview of current building regulations and all the essential information on Southvale Building Control to ensure your project goes smoothly.
