Cementaid Everdure CALTITE System

Hydrophobic and Pore‐blocking Ingredient (HPI) for

Membrane‐Free, Truly Waterproof Structural Concrete

The Queen Elizabeth University HospitalOpened in 2015 at a cost of £842m, this 170,000m2 hospital was built on the site of the former Southern General Hospital.

Designed by Nightingale Associates, now part of the IBI Group, the principal contractor for the project was Multiplex. A number of structural engineers worked on the various sections of the hospital including WSP and URS (now part of AECOM).

The Queen Elizabeth University HospitalOur original involvement with the hospital was in 2008 with the building of a new outpatients and oncology day centre. Then with the building of the new hospital, over 8,800 cubic metres of concrete containing Everdure Caltite was used to waterproof the basement slab, retaining walls and tunnels of the hospital and the energy centre.

The Queen Elizabeth University HospitalThe Caltite waterproof concrete system is a time-proven, practical system which produces damp-proof, highly durable concrete which can be used either as a stand-alone system or incorporated as part of a dual system when required.

Caltite has a successful track record of over 60 years helping designers, developers and owners waterproof and protect concrete structures, even under the most aggressive conditions, including over 55 years of experience in corrosion protection.

The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People

With the anticipated opening of the hospital in 2018, services from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services will relocate from Sciennes Road, Western General Hospital and Royal Edinburgh Hospital, to their purpose built new home at Little France in Edinburgh.

Designed by HLM Architects, with structural engineers Robert Bird Group, the principal contractor for the hospital is again Multiplex. Some 3,500m3 of concrete containing Everdure Caltite has been used to waterproof the basement slab, retaining walls and link tunnels of the hospital.

CaltiteEverdue Caltite has a history with hospital developments going back to 1962 and that first hospital is still in operation today with the Caltite waterproofing performing just as it did in 1962.  In the UK, Caltite has been used to provide waterproofing in over 500 hospitals and medical facilities.
