An award has been given to Mick George Ltd after demonstrating its commitment to improve the image of the industry by educating road users on HGV hazards.

One year on since claiming their first accolade at the annual Tip-Ex Awards night, it’s clear to see that Mick George Ltd haven’t let standards slip, as the company was triumphant once again.

The ceremony, which was hosted at a gala dinner at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate on Friday 2nd June, saw the biggest players in the UK haulier industry congregate in a bid to be rewarded for their efforts.

In illustrious company, the business became multiple honour winners, as they scooped the ‘Image of the Industry’ award, this time around.

Overcoming elite competition, the prestigious award was presented for Mick George’s ongoing commitment to improve the profile of the industry by partnering with schools, cyclists and village road watch groups to educate other road users of the potential hazards when in the vicinity of HGV’s.

Now in its 5th year, the ‘Tip-Ex’ evening showcases independent hauliers that clearly demonstrate sound financial management and an all-round commitment to best practice and improving service levels for their customers.

Recognition for hard work

Mick George started his business with just one tipper truck back in 1978 with the ambition to build a large fleet of vehicles to operate and serve the construction industry. The business has grown to become one of the leading suppliers to the construction industry in East Anglia and the East Midlands and today employs over 1000 staff across 24 sites, with a fleet in excess of 400 vehicles.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George said: “It’s pleasing to be recognised for our efforts in consecutive years. Winning awards is always a nice feeling, but not something we set out to do intentionally. It’s a good benchmark that we’re actively doing a lot of positive things as a business that we can all be proud of.”

Stump continued: “Last years ‘tipper’ award specifically related to one facet of the business, but this one is particularly pleasant for different reasons. Somewhat more generic, it encompasses a wider number of variables for which we’re judged. We invest a lot of time and resource into representing the industry in the best possible manner, especially with our work in the local communities.”
