IES are one of the sponsors supporting Heriot Watt University in the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020 competition, which aims to design houses of the future which will be built and displayed at the Dubai Expo 2020 in October next year.

Created by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020 Competition brings together universities from all over the world to design, build and operate a grid-connected, solar powered house. Heriot-Watt is one of the 28 universities from across the globe taking part.

IES is providing the university with its latest technology, including its recently launched ICL Digital Twin tools. It is also providing its expertise via guidance and training throughout the competition period.

The competition consists of 10 contests, which focus on Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Energy Management, Energy Efficiency, Comfort Conditions, House Functioning Sustainable Transportation, Sustainability, Communication and Innovation.

Members of our Consultancy team have attended and contributed to Heriot Watt’s design workshops, where they shared their knowledge with the student team. The team are now poised to deliver intensive training sessions on how to leverage the new cutting edge tools provided.

Veda Baliga, Senior Product Manager for the ICL, and leading IES’s participation in this project, said, “We are excited to see what the team from Heriot-Watt produce using our ICL technology. This is a great opportunity for the university to exploit the innovative capabilities of our new tools and showcase them globally.”
