Granada Glazing offers a wide range of secondary glazing products that are manufactured to your bespoke requirements
Established in 1992, Granada Glazing Ltd is the UK’s largest manufacturer and supplier of high quality bespoke aluminium secondary glazing. All products are manufactured in-house at its 50,000 square feet site where an on-site powder coating and arching facility can customise secondary glazing systems to customers’ exact specifications, plus a full glass range is offered for enhanced acoustic, thermal and security performance.
Increasingly being specified in refurbishment contracts, secondary glazing is the process through which a discreet, slimline internal window is fitted to an existing single, double or triple glazed window. It is frequently installed within commercial properties to substantially reduce noise levels and increase thermal insulation.
Secondary glazing is preferred for use in Listed Buildings and conservation areas as the bespoke design can be retrofitted to virtually any building and window type, while retaining the external character of the original windows. Slim sightlines render the internal windows invisible when viewed from the outside, while they provide increased thermal and acoustic insulation.
Benefits of secondary glazing include: an increase in acoustic insulation, a substantial reduction in heat loss and greater levels of security.
Types of secondary glazing
Granada Glazing offers a wide range of secondary glazing products that are manufactured to your bespoke requirements to match the function and style of all primary windows.
The range covers horizontal and vertical sliding windows, hinged casement and lift out windows that allows easy access for maintenance and ventilation purposes. Where a window is rarely used, fixed secondary glazing can be fitted.
Granada Glazing can also supply arched and curved windows to suit even the most demanding project requirements.
Secondary glazing benefits
Noise pollution can be problematic, affecting workplaces, hotels, schools, libraries and homes. Granada Glazing’s systems can reduce noise levels by up to 54dB – the equivalent of cutting the sounds of heavy traffic to just a whisper and making the interior up to 80% quieter.
Reduces heat loss:
Secondary glazing acts as an effective insulating barrier that prevents heat escaping. Using the correct glass and air cavity will create a warmer, more secure interior space and reduce heat loss by as much as 65%. Secondary glazing with low-E glass delivers thermal insulation to a U-value of under 2.0 W/m2K. For enhanced thermal performance Granada Glazing recommend the installation of hinged units with a double glazed sealed unit, this can reduce U-Values to 0.8 W/m2K.
Increased levels of security:
Creating an extra barrier with secondary glazing enhances security for homes and commercial buildings alike. Strong aluminium frames hold laminated glass securely in place providing an additional physical barrier against forced entry.
Specify Secondary Glazing with Confidence:
Granada Glazing’s RIBA approved CPD seminar has been created to outline the benefits provided by secondary glazing systems to enhance your next scheme. It includes advice on design, specification, insulation and use of secondary glazing products for your projects acoustic, thermal and security performance requirements.
Our CPD seminar focuses on five main topics:
- Advantages of secondary glazing systems
- Design & Specification
- Product types & application
- Environment and sustainability
- Heritage, listed and new building case studies
