Willmott Dixon<\/a> has been appointed by Oxford City Council<\/a> to deliver an extensive decarbonisation programme across four of the city\u2019s leisure centres<\/h2>\n

As part of the decarbonisation<\/a> programme, Willmott Dixon will convert the leisure centres from fossil fuels to water and air source heat pumps.<\/p>\n

Procured using the SCF framework, the upgrades will form a key part of the council\u2019s plan to be Zero Carbon across its own estate and operations by 2030.<\/p>\n

Working in collaboration, the project will oversee the installation of water and air source heat pumps at four leisure facilities \u2013 Ferry Leisure Centre, Leys Pool and Leisure Centre, Barton Leisure Centre and Hinksey Outdoor Pool.<\/p>\n

With leisure centres making up around 40% of the council\u2019s building carbon emissions<\/a>, the change will significantly reduce their carbon output.<\/p>\n

\u2018Moving towards a low-carbon future\u2019<\/h3>\n

Councillor Mary Clarkson, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: \u201cThis is a very exciting project to secure the future of our leisure centres as we move towards a low-carbon future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know how important our leisure centres are for physical and mental health, consequently we are working closely with our contractors<\/a> to minimise the disruption and the impact on the local area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richard Poulter, managing director from Willmott Dixon\u2019s Central South region, commented: \u201cWe are proud to be working alongside Oxford City Council on this exciting carbon reduction project, which will deliver a step-change in the mitigation of fossil fuels in the local community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programme is close to our heart and through our own 2030 \u2018Now or Never\u2019 Sustainability strategy, we have committed to achieving net zero operational carbon on all our new buildings and major refurbishments within the next decade.<\/p>\n

James Wright, framework manager at SCF, added: \u201cSCF is extremely proud to have played a key role in the procurement for this important decarbonisation programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cReducing carbon emissions is a key challenge for the industry and it is great to see our contractors and clients working collaboratively on their way to achieving net zero.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oxford decarbonisation programme follows Willmott Dixon’s appointment earlier this year by Spelthorne District Council<\/a> to deliver a Passivhaus leisure centre (CGI pictured above) that aims to be one of the most advanced, energy efficient leisure facilities in the world.<\/p>\n
