{"id":100322,"date":"2021-10-13T12:22:56","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T11:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=100322"},"modified":"2026-02-18T10:15:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T10:15:21","slug":"cambridge-renewable-heat-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/cambridge-renewable-heat-network\/100322\/","title":{"rendered":"Bouygues E&#038;S to deliver Cambridge renewable heat network"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Bouygues E&amp;S has been appointed to deliver a renewable heat network project at the Cambridge Comberton Village College<\/h2>\n<p>The project to deliver a renewable heat network at the Cambridge Comberton Village College will last 12-months and aims to eliminate oil heating on site, replace end-of-life heating plant, and save on heating costs while reducing carbon emissions at the secondary school by 80%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">This project has been agreed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catrust.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Academy Trust<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cambridgeshire County Council<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bouygues-es.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bouygues Energies &amp; Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">Bouygues will replace the aging oil boilers with a network distributing heat to the buildings on site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">Operating under the terms of the Re:fit3 Framework Agreement, and developed by the Greater London Authority and Local Partnerships, the renewable heat network will help with reducing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/carbon-emissions-from-buildings\/84234\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carbon emissions<\/a> from the college\u2019s heating by 233 tonnes of CO2e (a 66% reduction) in the first year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">The heat will be supplied by 705 kW thermal of ground source heat pumps installed in the main plant room which will extract heat from an array of 200m deep boreholes through underground pipes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">This saving will further increase to 313 tonnes (an 89% reduction) in year 20, taking the secondary school completely off oil heating and replace oil boilers in ten different plant rooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">As well as reducing carbon emissions, the project will save the college around \u00a340,000 per annum compared to the cost of operating and maintaining oil heating.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"paragraphstyle\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2018An exemplar for retrofit decarbonisation of heating\u2019<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">Councillor Lorna Dupr\u00e9, chair of Cambridgeshire County Council\u2019s environment &amp; green investment committee, said: \u201cOur vision is to deliver net-zero carbon emissions for Cambridgeshire and to bring forward the target for this from 2050 towards 2030.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">\u201cThe Comberton Village College project is a great example of how we are working in partnership with our stakeholders to deliver this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">\u201cThe low carbon heat network will not only ensure that we are doing our part to tackle climate change, but also serve as an exemplar for retrofit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/building-decarbonisation\/74802\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decarbonisation<\/a> of heating on other sites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraphstyle\">Miles Messenger, head of energy performance contracting at Bouygues Energies &amp;
