{"id":101280,"date":"2021-11-01T14:47:25","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T14:47:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=101280"},"modified":"2021-11-01T14:47:25","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T14:47:25","slug":"interserve-audits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/interserve-audits\/101280\/","title":{"rendered":"Grant Thornton handed \u00a31.3m fine for Interserve audits"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frc.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Financial Reporting Council<\/a> (FRC) has fined Grant Thornton \u00a31.3m for the statutory audits of the 2015-2017 financial statements of Interserve plc<\/h2>\n<p>Interserve plc, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/interserve-rescue-plan-rejected\/54091\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now in administration<\/a>, was a large, high-profile business with a number of public-sector clients and there was significant public interest in the audit conducted.<\/p>\n<h3>The following sanctions have been imposed:<\/h3>\n<h4>Grant Thornton:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A financial sanction of \u00a31.3m, adjusted for mitigating factors and admissions \/ early disposal to \u00a3718,250.<\/li>\n<li>Non-financial sanctions, comprising of a requirement for Grant Thornton to report to the FRC on its monitoring programme of the quality of audit work on loss-making contracts.<\/li>\n<li>A severe reprimand and declaration that the audits did not satisfy the relevant requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Simon Lowe, audit engagement partner:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A financial sanction of \u00a370,000 adjusted for mitigating factors and admissions \/ early disposal to \u00a338,675.<\/li>\n<li>Non-financial sanctions comprising a severe reprimand and a declaration that the audits did not satisfy the Relevant Requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The adverse findings against Grant Thornton and Simon Lowe concern the audit work performed on:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A substantial loss provision in the financial statements for FY 2015 and FY 2016 against an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/interserve-face-64m-claim\/49516\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Energy from Waste\u2019 contract<\/a> for the construction of a waste treatment facility.
