The business secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng has given the green light for plans to deliver the\u202fSouth Humber Bank Energy Centre<\/h2>\n

The application for the\u202fSouth Humber Bank Energy Centre has been granted development consent.<\/p>\n

The\u202forder grants development consent for this significant infrastructure project<\/a> comprising the construction and operation of an energy from waste plant of up to 95 megawatts gross capacity and associated development including an electrical connection, landscaping and access.<\/p>\n

The plant will be built next to the existing power station and produce electricity for around 100,000 homes.<\/p>\n

Construction will now start early next year on a\u00a0programme expected to last three years.<\/p>\n

The South Humber Bank Energy Centre project will support 600 construction jobs<\/a> before the plant becomes operational in 2025.<\/p>\n

The application was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration by EP Waste Management Ltd on 09 April 2020 and accepted for examination on 04 May 2020.<\/p>\n

Following an\u202fexamination during which the public,\u202fstatutory consultees and interested parties were given the opportunity to give evidence to the Examining Authority, recommendations were made to the business secretary on\u202f10 August 2021.<\/p>\n

\u2018A nationally significant infrastructure project\u2019<\/h3>\n

Sarah Richards, the Planning Inspectorate<\/a>\u2019s chief executive, said:\u202f\u201cThe Planning Inspectorate has examined more than 100 nationally significant infrastructure projects ensuring local communities had the opportunity of being involved in the examination of projects that may affect them.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal people, the local authority and other interested parties were able to participate in the examination.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Examining Authority listened and gave full consideration to local views and the evidence gathered during the examination before making their recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n
