{"id":101856,"date":"2021-11-16T09:39:40","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T09:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=101856"},"modified":"2021-11-16T09:39:40","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T09:39:40","slug":"net-zero-transition-landsec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/net-zero-transition-landsec\/101856\/","title":{"rendered":"Landsec develops \u00a3135m net zero transition investment plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/landsec.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Landsec<\/a> has created a new \u00a3135m net zero transition investment plan to help the group achieve its 2030 science-based targets and decarbonise its portfolio<\/h2>\n<p>The \u00a3135m net zero transition investment programme will be used across Landsec\u2019s entire portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected that overall the programme will see 24,000 tonnes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/carbon-emissions-from-buildings\/84234\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carbon emissions<\/a> removed from Landsec\u2019s operations \u2013 equivalent to over 35,000 return flights from London to New York.<\/p>\n<h3>The nine-year investment programme will support Landsec\u2019s decarbonisation plans by:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Reducing operational energy use through:\n<ul>\n<li>Optimising building management systems, using innovative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/ai-and-machine-learning-transform\/97643\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artificial Intelligence<\/a> technologies<\/li>\n<li>Engaging our customers on energy efficiency to drive down consumption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Moving to cleaner sources of energy through:\n<ul>\n<li>Replacing gas-fired boilers with electric systems such as Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)<\/li>\n<li>Investing in renewable energy including adding onsite renewable capacity through more solar PV panels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u2018Driving forward change\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Mark Allan, Landsec CEO, said:\u00a0\u201cOur net zero transition investment plan is a significant commitment to ensure that Landsec delivers against its science-based target to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re investing across our entire estate because we want to remain at the forefront of everything the property sector is doing to respond to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/climate-resilient-design\/90047\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climate crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough these actions, we\u2019ll be supporting the current and future needs of our customers, communities and stakeholders as we help them transition to a low carbon world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever has it been more important to prioritise carbon reduction programmes.
