Morgan Sindall<\/a> has been appointed as preferred bidder to deliver the University of Hertfordshire<\/a>\u2019s new School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS) building<\/h2>\n

Located in a central position on the College Lane Campus in South Hatfield, the development will be delivered under the Southern Construction Framework, a quality-managed collaborative construction<\/a> framework for public bodies to procure major building works using a two-stage open book process to deliver the best value.<\/p>\n

The five-storey, steel-framed building will be located across a 165,000 sq ft site and will be grouped across four separate internal houses divided by a central atrium.<\/p>\n

The sustainable building design<\/a> will be developed by Morgan Sindall\u2019s construction team and their design team of ADP Architecture and Aecom, utilising BIM 360.<\/p>\n

Morgan Sindall\u2019s carbon calculator, Carbonica, will be utilised on the project to assess and measure project-embodied and operational carbon.<\/p>\n

Modern methods of construction<\/a> and offsite manufacturing will be utilised to deliver high-quality sustainable solutions that will also deliver time and cost savings<\/p>\n

The project team will deliver on a number of environmental commitments aligned to the Paris Climate Agreement\u2019s international goals.<\/p>\n

These will include water reduction techniques, and biodiversity improvements in partnership with the university, carbon management<\/a>, and air quality commitments.<\/p>\n

Morgan Sindall will continue to engage with the local community during the project life cycle, through supporting local SMEs, social enterprises, and local schools and colleges to deliver training and support the region\u2019s education, diversity, and inclusion agenda.<\/p>\n

During the pandemic, the Northern home counties team have presented on several University webinars on various industry subject areas.<\/p>\n

The project team will continue to support the University\u2019s faculties and student engagement throughout the project.<\/p>\n

Enabling works on the development were completed in October 2021, with the main works beginning in November 2021.<\/p>\n
