{"id":102222,"date":"2021-11-26T16:31:07","date_gmt":"2021-11-26T16:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=102222"},"modified":"2021-11-26T16:31:07","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T16:31:07","slug":"mace-carbon-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/mace-carbon-survey\/102222\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon survey reports that some businesses are reluctant to address emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Global construction and consultancy firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macegroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mace<\/a> has announced the results of its second annual carbon survey, which highlights how business leaders are changing climate at the heart of their strategies<\/h2>\n<p>The report draws on research by <a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouGov<\/a>, of 627 private sector senior management leaders to show that private sector organisations in the UK are preparing for a significant shift in how they do business driven by the carbon agenda.<\/p>\n<h3>Survey highlights:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>58% of private sector leaders in the UK believe that climate change will force changes to their business model.<\/li>\n<li>69% of leaders would use sustainability as a factor in accepting a new role, and 21% would only work for a business that is committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/net-carbon-negative-2\/101659\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">being sustainable<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>45% of organisations are planning on changing how they use their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/future-of-the-office\/100224\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">office space<\/a>, with one in five reducing the amount of office space they use.<\/li>\n<li>However, only 36% of organisations have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/sfs-carbon-products\/100863\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carbon reduction strategy<\/a> in place to address the carbon emissions of their property and estate portfolio.<\/li>\n<li>And nearly in 1 in 4 companies believe that recent global <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/cop26-construction\/100678\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climate conference COP26<\/a> will not have any long-term impact on how they do business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macegroup.com\/about-us\/a-responsible-business\/carbon-survey-report-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The report<\/a> shows a significant shift in learning and action in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>Using broader data which included responses from Mace\u2019s global clients, the report suggests that since October 2020, there has been a 39% rise in companies increasing their carbon reduction efforts and a 25% increase in the number of organisations with a carbon strategy.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the commitments, 29% of companies around the world are still trying to work out how to identify and record any savings from carbon reduction initiatives.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Industry must be prepared to work together to deliver a sustainable future\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Mark Reynolds, Mace\u2019s group CEO, said: \u201cOur research shows that although companies across the globe are responding quickly to climate change, there is still a huge amount to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonal appetites for change aren\u2019t being matched by corporate strategy, particularly around the carbon generated from corporate property portfolios.
