Perkins&Will<\/a>\u00a0has won a contract to design two new state-of-the-art hospitals for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust<\/h2>\n

Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust<\/a> has visioned a single, state-of-the-art building that houses two unique hospitals on the LGI site\u00a0– one for adults and one for children. The designs will also include a centralised maternity and neonatal unit.<\/a><\/p>\n

All wards will orient toward the outdoors and a garden terrace on the fifth floor, complete with plants mirroring the local landscape, will also feature. There will be added green space on the site’s car park.<\/p>\n

Communal spaces will be featured throughout, including a rooftop plaza at the children\u2019s hospital.<\/p>\n

Patients and staff are instrumental in helping to shape the facility<\/h3>\n

The team is undertaking staff and patient engagement sessions to gather input for the next stage of design development.<\/p>\n

Cutting-edge twin technology will be implemented to track the building\u2019s energy performance and other technology will reduce bureaucratic processes.<\/p>\n

Simon Worthington, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust director of finance and senior responsible officer for the Hospitals of the Future Project, said: “The Perkins&Will concept design is very exciting and will create a fantastic landmark for the city of Leeds.<\/p>\n

‘Best-in-class healthcare facilities’<\/h3>\n

“The way the new hospitals have been designed will enable them to operate independently, but also benefit from improved and more efficient communication and care when located together.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to be moving into the next phase of the design and engaging with staff and the community to help bring to life these flagship hospitals, which will serve Leeds and the wider region for many decades to come.”<\/p>\n

Mark Rowe, managing principal of Perkins&Will, said: “We\u2019re delighted to have been appointed to design the Trust\u2019s new hospitals at the Leeds General Infirmary site.<\/p>\n
