{"id":105900,"date":"2022-02-16T14:15:36","date_gmt":"2022-02-16T14:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=105900"},"modified":"2022-02-16T14:15:36","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T14:15:36","slug":"zero-energy-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/zero-energy-bills\/105900\/","title":{"rendered":"ilke Homes to deliver first home to guarantee zero energy bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>ilke Homes, in partnership with Gresham House and SO Resi, are set to deliver a home that promises zero energy bills in Essex<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/factory-built-homes-hastings\/100731\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">factory-built home<\/a> will be located in Stanford-le-Hope and will save the new owners up to \u00a340,000 over 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>The home will be precision-engineered along production lines at<a href=\"https:\/\/ilkehomes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> ilke Homes<\/a>\u2019 factory in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire and transported to site in a matter of hours.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/greshamhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gresham House<\/a>, ilke Homes will install low-carbon technologies to provide cheap, clean energy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/pv-panels\/105300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solar panels<\/a> will be installed to capture renewable energy by absorbing sunlight. This energy will then be used for electricity to power the home\u2019s air source heat pump, which provides all heating and hot water.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">ilke Homes will also install battery technology so the home can store energy from the solar panels for later use.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">ZERO bills<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">ilke Homes is able to achieve the ZERO bills specification by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Fabric:<\/strong> walls, floors and roofs are highly insulated, while all windows and doors are airtight to retain heat and stops draughts. Being manufactured in a factory &#8211; as opposed to a field &#8211; results in a higher quality output<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Efficiency:<\/strong> highly efficient LED lighting that uses less than a quarter of the energy of a halogen bulb is incorporated into the design, as well efficient water fittings and ventilation systems<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Renewable energy:<\/strong> fossil-fuel gas boilers replaced by low-carbon air source heat pumps that use a third of the energy. In addition, solar panels, which can now cost less than traditional roof tiles, generate more electricity than a house requires, providing free energy for consumers and income from exported electricity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>ilke ZERO<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The home is part of a wider development at Hope Green, a 153-home shared ownership scheme that is being funded by Gresham House Residential Secure Income LP. Gresham House and ilke Homes will also be delivering 101 operational zero carbon homes via the company\u2019s ilke ZERO offering.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Launched in July 2021, ilke ZERO aims to deliver 1,000 operational zero carbon homes per year for major investors, housing associations, and councils across the UK.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">Cost-of-living crisis<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Giles Carter, CEO at ilke Homes, said: &#8220;The cost-of-living crisis is here and now. Since the turn of the century, UK households have become overly reliant on gas imports, leaving consumers at risk from rising wholesale gas prices.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Thanks to advances in manufacturing, materials, and renewable energy, we have created homes that not only drastically reduce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/energy-price-cap\/105156\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">household bills<\/a> but also give consumers greater control over their own energy usage.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;There\u2019s a huge opportunity here to tackle fuel poverty while helping investors meet their green targets, which is why we\u2019ve spent years investing into our manufacturing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The launch of the ZERO bills home is a great example of how the private sector can respond to politicians\u2019 net zero pledges and address some of society\u2019s most prominent problems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p and innovative solutions to this problem.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;This project will deliver real-world benefits to residents in Hope Green and is another step on the journey towards widespread rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SO Resi<\/a>, said: &#8220;The housing sector clearly has a big part to play in driving down carbon emissions and moving towards more sustainable methods of construction
