Peel NRE<\/a> has announced planning proposals for a new science innovation and research centre, sustainable energy park, and medicinal cannabis facility on Cooil Road, Braddan, Isle of Man<\/h2>\n

The planning proposals come alongside a recent change in cannabis production and exportation legislation<\/a> on the Isle of Man and would bring inward investment and opportunity for the Island to become a leader in the emerging medicinal cannabis sector.<\/p>\n

The planning application will include details for phase one of the development, which will include two units for the cultivation facility, alongside an access road, engineering works and preliminary landscaping.<\/p>\n

Members of the public are being called on to engage with Peel NRE during the public consultation, to help with plans before the application is sent to the Department of Environment, Food, and Agriculture<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The flagship scheme will also create new, high-quality technical jobs, and further economic investment opportunities to the area.<\/p>\n

The medicinal cannabis facility will help the Isle of Man develop home-grown talent that will contribute to cutting-edge research into cannabinoids for pharmaceutical uses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By incorporating and building on innovative technologies found in cannabis facilities across the world, the development will set a gold standard for the cannabis industry, enabling the Island to lead the way on medicinal research and cultivation best practices.<\/p>\n

\u2018Attracting a range of specialist scientific and research and development industries to the Island\u2019<\/h3>\n

Stephen Snowdon, planning and development manager at Peel NRE, commented: \u201cThe Isle of Man Government is seeking to establish an innovation cluster on the island, dedicated to the production and export of cannabis-derived products serving the medicinal and pharmaceutical markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to bring our proposals forward to help to create a new export market, more jobs and attract a range of specialist scientific and research and development industries<\/a> to the Island to support the local economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith 20 years\u2019 experience of delivering transformational projects across the UK and extensive knowledge of the Island, we\u2019re in a strong position to support the Isle of Man Government to achieve success in this emerging growth industry and we invite the public to have their say on these plans.\u201d<\/p>\n

The public consultation period for the development will be held between Monday 14th February and Monday 7th March 2022.<\/p>\n
