{"id":106475,"date":"2022-02-24T17:44:51","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T17:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=106475"},"modified":"2022-02-24T17:44:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T17:44:51","slug":"transforming-construction-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/transforming-construction-challenge\/106475\/","title":{"rendered":"UKRI\u2019s Transforming Construction challenge releases results of Impact Evaluation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\">UKRI\u2019s Transforming Construction challenge (TCC) has released the results of the Impact Evaluation, a report that assesses the achievements, contributions and impact of the TCC on the construction industry<\/h2>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The Impact Evaluation, undertaken by Frontier Economics and BMG Research,<\/span> uses a combination of data and trend analysis, case studies, expert review and a primary survey of key organisations to create an assessment of TCC\u2019s impact for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/construction-planning\/79392\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction sector<\/a> and associated industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The results demonstrate significant improvements across industry investment, performance, collaboration and key benefits for buildings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Evaluation found that the TCC played an important role in the development of greater collaboration. It also found that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/rd-spend-construction-sector\/68030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">increased R&amp;D<\/a> funding and\u00a0that the TCC\u2019s target of applying techniques that improve productivity by 10% or more being applied on real world projects with a value of \u00a310bn.<\/p>\n<h3>Construction costs and labour hours<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In addition, the Evaluation identified signs that metrics such as build time, construction costs and labour hours had seen improvements and\u00a0that the adoption of TCC concepts was likely to continue to bring about environmental performance benefits to a number of areas, including energy consumption, waste production and CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;Efficient and technologically advanced construction&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Lee Rowley, parliamentary under secretary of state and minister for construction, BEIS commented: &#8220;The government wants the UK to have the most efficient and technologically advanced construction sector in the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;The Transforming Construction Challenge has accelerated industry modernisation towards this aim, reducing whole life costs whilst increasing productivity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;The positive findings of the impact evaluation are encouraging for industry and good news for government as it spends \u00a3650bn on infrastructure programmes over the next 10 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Modern methods of construction<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Indro Mukerjee, chief executive, Innovate UK,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cThe Transforming Construction challenge has established genuine system change and demonstrable impact for our economy and society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;The Innovate UK team has done an excellent job working across government, industry and academia to accelerate the transition to modern, world-leading methods of construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Sam Stacey, challenge director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/ukri-future-consultancy\/54064\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UKRI<\/a>\u2019s Transforming Construction Challenge, said: &#8220;It\u2019s fantastic to see the work of the TCC recognised by this evaluation, and that its influence and impact can be seen across so many critical areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;We intentionally set some ambitious targets for the TCC at the outset.
