{"id":106521,"date":"2022-02-25T10:21:33","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T10:21:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=106521"},"modified":"2022-02-25T10:21:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T10:21:33","slug":"pews-and-perches-design-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/pews-and-perches-design-competition\/106521\/","title":{"rendered":"LFA and RDT launch third edition of Pews and Perches design competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.londonfestivalofarchitecture.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Festival of Architecture<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royaldocks.london\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Docks Team<\/a> have launched the third edition of the Pews and Perches design competition, which invites architecture and design students, recent graduates, and emerging practitioners to deliver bespoke public benches to the Royal Docks<\/h2>\n<p>In its third year running, the Pews and Perches design competition highlights the transformative impact of small-scale interventions in the public realm and offers visitors and residents alike unique spaces to sit and make the most of their surrounding public space.<\/p>\n<p>The Royal Docks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/tag\/london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">once London\u2019s<\/a> gateway to world trade, is one of the UK\u2019s most important regeneration stories, as the London Borough of Newham is re-emerging as a commercial and cultural hub of global significance.<\/p>\n<p>Entrants have been asked to design the benches with LFA\u2019s theme of \u2018act\u2019 in mind, creating a bench that actively engages its users and visitors.<\/p>\n<h3>A variety of locations across the Royal Docks have been selected for the 2022 Pews and Perches, including:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Royal Victoria Dock Floating Garden<\/li>\n<li>ExCeL Dock edge<\/li>\n<li>Thames Barrier Park<\/li>\n<li>Connaught Crossing (South Side)<\/li>\n<li>London Design &amp; Engineering UTC College<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants have been asked to submit their proposals on Tuesday 5 April via the online form.<\/p>\n<p>Winners of the Pews and Perches design competition will each be awarded \u00a32,300, including a design fee of \u00a3500 to develop, build and install their bench in summer 2022. Each bench will stay in place until at least summer 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Democratise architecture and discover new talent\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Rosa Rogina, director of the London Festival of Architecture, said: \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be working once again with the Royal Docks on the Pews and Perches competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project will not only make a positive contribution to the public realm, but also celebrate the Royal Docks, which this year form part of the LFA Destinations.
