{"id":106676,"date":"2022-03-01T11:28:55","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T11:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=106676"},"modified":"2022-03-01T11:28:55","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T11:28:55","slug":"polands-carbon-free-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/polands-carbon-free-power\/106676\/","title":{"rendered":"Bechtel, Westinghouse and GE Steam Power to support Poland&#8217;s carbon-free power"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Two leading U.S. companies in the global nuclear industry, Bechtel and Westinghouse have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GE Steam Power to explore opportunities civil nuclear power projects and support Poland&#8217;s carbon-free power<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ge.com\/steam-power\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GE Steam Power<\/a> nuclear steam turbines are installed in half of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/snc-lavalin-nuclear-unit\/103050\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nuclear power plants<\/a> in the world; the company seeks to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/teesside-turbine-manufacturing\/99084\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">turbine<\/a> island design and installation to support Poland&#8217;s carbon-free power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoland is taking visionary steps to transition to a clean energy economy while retaining its energy independence and security,\u201d said Ahmet Tokpinar, operations manager of Bechtel\u2019s Nuclear Power business line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cooperation with GE Steam Power, along with future additions from the Polish supply chain, will form a team with local talent and proven, hands-on experience in nuclear project delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Front-end engineering design<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bechtel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bechtel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/westinghouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Westinghouse<\/a> are preparing a front-end engineering design (FEED) for a plant on a site chosen by Poland on the Baltic Sea coast, for the Polish Nuclear Power Plant program. This will be partly funded by a grant from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWestinghouse is well-positioned to help Poland meet its energy goals through our proven AP1000\u00ae technology, our in-country investments for local manufacturing, and our global shared services center in Krakow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to working with GE Steam Power to explore joint pursuit on this important project,\u201d added Elias Gedeon, SVP commercial operations of Westinghouse Energy Systems.<\/p>\n<h3>Poland&#8217;s carbon-free power<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAs one of the most dependable sources of carbon-free power generation providing around-the-clock energy supply, nuclear energy is a critical pillar for today\u2019s energy transition.\u201d commented the nuclear new build leader for GE Steam Power Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Wiscart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGE is a long-standing partner to the Polish energy industry, and we look forward to offering our decades of technological expertise in turbine island design and installation to Bechtel and Westinghouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bechtel has been behind the design, build and services of 80 nuclear reactors in the United States and 150 worldwide.
