{"id":108682,"date":"2022-04-01T11:42:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T10:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=108682"},"modified":"2022-04-01T11:43:42","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T10:43:42","slug":"helen-redfern-appointed-kiers-chief-people-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/helen-redfern-appointed-kiers-chief-people-officer\/108682\/","title":{"rendered":"Helen Redfern appointed as Kier&#8217;s chief people officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Helen Redfern has secured the role as Kier&#8217;s chief people officer following her successful approach to HR in the construction industry<\/h2>\n<p>Helen Redfern will become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kier.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kier<\/a>&#8216;s chief people officer, a newly-formed position, which will oversee\u00a0all HR responsibilities as well as spearheading Kier\u2019s approach to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/prioritising-mental-wellbeing-save-lives-construction-industry\/107973\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> health, safety and wellbeing<\/a> and pushing forward ESG strategies.<\/p>\n<p>As Kier&#8217;s chief people officer, Redfern will be part of Kier\u2019s <em>Building for a Sustainable World<\/em> framework. The framework aims to make meaningful change in carbon, diversity, inclusion and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/mmc-and-social-value\/106284\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social value<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Redfern will also pioneer new initiatives and strategies to deliver sustainable infrastructure as part of her new role.<\/p>\n<h3>Redfern already has significant experience in HR<\/h3>\n<p>Redfern first joined Kier in 2012 and since then has been promoted to group HR director in 2019. She helped to transform Kier&#8217;s HR function in a number of ways. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Redfern launched a career development programme for all 11,000 employees<\/li>\n<li>introduced impressive family-friendly policies<\/li>\n<li>created the Kier Inclusion Network<\/li>\n<li>rolled out a diversity and inclusion campaign called <em>Expect Respect<\/em><\/li>\n<li>made construction a more accessible industry by expanding apprenticeship numbers<\/li>\n<li>expanded a programme to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/keepmoat-homes-provide-prisoners-skills-hmp-hull\/108161\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">help ex-offenders<\/a> called <em>Making Ground<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2020, Helen was named as one of 100 senior leaders in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mykier\/news\/Pages\/Kier%E2%80%99s-Helen-Redfern-included-in-global-Women-Role-Model-lists.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">INvolve\u2019s global HERoes 2021 Executive Role Model Lists<\/a> and the only person from the construction industry to be featured in any of the Role Model lists.<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;I am proud of what we have achieved, breaking down barriers and providing people opportunities to develop&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Andrew Davies, chief executive at Kier, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted Helen is expanding her role as our new chief people officer. She will continue to oversee our progressive people agenda as well as drive forward our health, safety and wellbeing and sustainability strategy, all of which are critically important to ensuring we deliver on our purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Helen Redfern added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last ten years, I\u2019ve had the privilege of working with some fantastic teams who have pioneered change within Kier and across the construction industry.
