{"id":109093,"date":"2022-04-11T14:21:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-11T13:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=109093"},"modified":"2022-04-11T15:43:44","modified_gmt":"2022-04-11T14:43:44","slug":"durkan-refurbish-historic-homes-sutton-dwellings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/durkan-refurbish-historic-homes-sutton-dwellings\/109093\/","title":{"rendered":"Durkan to refurbish historic homes at Sutton Dwellings"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.durkan.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Durkan<\/a> has been appointed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarionhg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clarion Housing Group<\/a> to refurbish the Sutton Dwellings, part of Chelsea\u2019s historic Sutton Estate<\/h2>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The refurbishment project will create 81 new one-to-four-bedroom flats, all of which will be offered as Social Rent and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/durkan-affordable-new-homes-london\/107173\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Affordable Rent.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Work on the four early 20th-century\u00a0residential buildings includes complete building alterations to create new, spacious homes that are fit for modern living. Lifts will be added to ensure accessibility for all.<\/p>\n<h3>Designed to keep as much of the existing building<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The new homes will be high-quality and contemporary but designed to keep as much of the existing building as possible. Balconies, included as part of the original build but later enclosed, will be reopened and reinstated and a new communal garden will also be created.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/tim-carpenter\/106155\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Carpenter<\/a>, managing director for Construction at Durkan, said: &#8220;We\u2019re pleased to be working with Clarion Housing Group again on another important project in the capital.<\/p>\n<h3>Deliver much needed new homes&#8230;giving historic and disused buildings a new lease of life<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;Not only will our work deliver much needed new homes in London, but it will build on the area\u2019s existing heritage, giving historic and disused buildings a new lease of life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;This refurbishment also offers the opportunity to create vastly more efficient homes \u2013 a critical consideration given the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;By introducing new insulation and technology, we anticipate we can reduce the energy needed to run the building by up to 75%.
