Even when looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpa.org.uk\/news\/blogs\/overcoming-blockers-or-issues-to-delivering-mmc-in-the-social-housing-sector-the-south-west-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blockers to the use of MMC<\/a>, working together and collaborating underpins them all.<\/p>\n<p>With all this in mind, when Wiltshire Council approached SWPA to help deliver 100 new council houses every year for the next ten years, we drew upon the expertise of the appointed companies on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpa.org.uk\/frameworks\/construction-extension-and-refurbishment\/offsite-construction-of-new-homes-nh2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Offsite Construction of New Homes (NH2)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpa.org.uk\/frameworks\/consultancy\/offsite-project-integrator-opi1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Offsite Project Integrator (OPI1)<\/a> frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Bennell, Director at SWPA says: &#8220;The two frameworks go together to create a complete offering; the combined expertise of both the consultant and the manufacturer mean that many of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/mmc-in-the-social-housing-sector\/102263\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> barriers to MMC<\/a>, including the different ways of working, can be overcome.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This collaborative approach was one of the key reasons that Wiltshire Council decided to move forward with the procurement for the project with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/modern-methods-of-construction-of-new-homes-nh3-framework\/105129\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> SWPA frameworks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>What has this collaborative approach achieved?<\/h3>\n<p>When designing and creating the housing project plan, Wiltshire Council were able to draw upon the technical expertise and local knowledge of Rollalong and Taylor Lewis \u2013 who have also worked with another local housing association, Magna Housing.<\/p>\n<p>This has meant that despite a pandemic Rollalong are manufacturing the units for the first 19 homes, five of which will be wheelchair-accessible bungalows, to be transported and completed on three pilot sites.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of this cannot be understated as it addresses the housing crisis with sustainable homes while negating the common housing project problems &#8211; which reduces risk to all parties.<\/p>\n<h3>Constructing the Gold Standard<\/h3>\n<p>This housing project through the SWPA frameworks is innovative in another way, it demonstrates all parties are committed to working towards or achieving many of the recommendations in <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1041002\/Constructing_The_Gold_Standard_Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Constructing the Gold Standard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The early supply chain involvement, focus on quality, collaborative working, and use of MMC found in this housing project are all highlighted within the recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about this housing project with our latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpa.org.uk\/media\/krmhhxug\/swpa_nh2-opi1-collab-to-deliver-casestudyv2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">case study<\/a>.
