{"id":109957,"date":"2022-04-27T11:42:39","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T10:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=109957"},"modified":"2022-04-27T11:42:39","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T10:42:39","slug":"roof-fire-block-flats-deptford-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/roof-fire-block-flats-deptford-london\/109957\/","title":{"rendered":"Roof fire breaks out at Deptford block of flats"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-fire.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Fire Brigade<\/a> were called out to a roof fire at a block of flats on Creek Road in Deptford yesterday (26 April)<\/h2>\n<p>More than 100 firefighters and 20 fire engines were called to control the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/actis-building-insulation\/91668\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">roof fire<\/a>, battling the blaze until the early hours of Wednesday (27 April) morning.<\/p>\n<h3>Construction work underway at time of roof fire<\/h3>\n<p>Building work was taking place on the block of flats at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">Station commander Ian Smith, of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/high-rise-building-fire-london\/107185\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Fire<\/a> Brigade, said: &#8220;This is an intense fire located in the roof of the building and fire crews are working hard in challenging conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">&#8220;There is a lot of smoke from the incident and we\u2019d ask local residents to close their doors and windows.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Around 13 residents evacuated the flaming building before the Brigade arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We now have 20 fire engines and around 120 firefighters dealing with the roof fire in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Deptford?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Deptford<\/a>. The Fire Brigade described the fire as &#8216;exceptionally challenging&#8217; due to the fire being behind voids and difficult to access.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Deptford?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Deptford<\/a> roof fire was exceptionally challenging due to the fire being behind voids and difficult to access. The fire was declared under control before 1am this morning.
