Stretching more than 100km, the new Elizabeth line links Reading and Essex via central London<\/h2>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/paddington-elizabeth-line-station\/97463\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crossrail Elizabeth line<\/a> has finally opened today (24 May 2022), despite some issues at Paddington station due to a fire alarm, resulting in minor delays.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Looks like the Elizabeth line has got off to a bumpy start\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Network Rail staff at Paddington station told me that there is a \u2018fire evacuation\u2019 taking place.<\/p>\n<p>This has prevented commuters from getting on the new Cross Rail Elizabeth line\u2026. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h3UcVMBCqj\">pic.twitter.com\/h3UcVMBCqj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Neha Gohil (@nehagohil24) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nehagohil24\/status\/1529009282099855361?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 24, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\u00a0130,000 journeys made by midday upon opening<\/h3>\n<p>However, once the service got up and running after a few teething troubles, the opening of the new line was an overall success, with <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TfL<\/a> reporting that 130,000 journeys had already been made by midday.<\/p>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/crossrail-elizabeth-line\/97334\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crossrail service<\/a> is expected to serve up to 200 million people a year, and increase London&#8217;s train capacity by over 10%.<\/p>\n<p>Originally set to open in December 2018, but halted due to failure to meet project deadlines, the Elizabeth line is estimated to be around \u00a34bn over-budget.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a lot of talk and anticipation over the long awaited Crossrail Elizabeth line, and last week, the service even received a surprise visit from the Queen, who came to see the completed line named after herself.<\/p>\n<p>Talk of the new service has gained a lot of traction online, as famous train spotter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/francis_bourgeois43\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Francis Bourgeois<\/a> was invited to the service earlier this week to take a tour before the Elizabeth line was officially open to the public.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF;
