{"id":113103,"date":"2022-07-13T13:52:19","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T12:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=113103"},"modified":"2022-07-13T13:52:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-13T12:52:19","slug":"balfour-beatty-industry-first-automated-cone-laying-machines-falcon-aclm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/balfour-beatty-industry-first-automated-cone-laying-machines-falcon-aclm\/113103\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour Beatty rolls out industry first Automated Cone Laying Machines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.balfourbeatty.com\/sectors\/transportation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Balfour Beatty<\/a> becomes the first UK construction company to roll out the new FALCON ACLM\u00ae Automated Cone Laying Machines\u00a0to reduce the risks associated with cone laying across its Highways operations<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_YkGYm387A8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The new FALCON ACLM\u00ae Automated Cone Laying Machines can deploy or collect a cone in under ten seconds &#8211; removing the need for traffic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/stakeholders\/field-management-software\/106665\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">management operatives<\/a> to manually lift up to five tonnes of equipment per shift.<\/p>\n<p>This ultimately minimises the time that operatives spend on the road and reduces the number of incidents associated with cone laying.<\/p>\n<h3>The FALCON ACLM\u00ae will be used across Balfour Beatty\u2019s Connect Plus Services\u2019 consortium<\/h3>\n<p>The FALCON ACLM\u00ae Automated Cone Laying Machine received significant project investment from National Highways\u2019 Innovation Designated Funds programme.<\/p>\n<p>It has been developed and supplied by Highway Care and Switzerland-based technology partner SENN Engineering and has\u00a0received regulatory acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>It is now being distributed across Balfour Beatty\u2019s Connect Plus Services\u2019 consortium, which operates and manages the M25 and its key arterial routes on behalf of National Highways.<\/p>\n<h3>The first UK construction company to roll out the Automated Cone Laying Machines<\/h3>\n<p>Phil Clifton, Balfour Beatty managing director Highways said: &#8220;We\u2019re delighted to become the first construction company in the UK to successfully roll out these revolutionary new Automated Cone Laying Machines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is yet another example of the investment Balfour Beatty has made to transform how we work on our roads, showing that we continue to lead the charge in setting a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balfourbeatty.com\/health-and-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">standard for safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope the machines will radically improve the lives of Highways workers by reducing their direct exposure to a live road environment &#8211; demonstrating our commitment to achieving Zero Harm and to sending our people home safe and well every day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Martin Bolt, National Highways head of lean and continuous improvement said: &#8220;We are continuously looking at ways to innovate and pioneer new products that improve safety on the road for both road workers and users.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Automated Cone Laying Machine takes out the human element in the laborious task of putting out cones as well as eliminating an element of potential risk. It also frees up workers who can be redeployed to other traffic management duties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Working closely with our partners we are proud to have been able to create an innovative vehicle that would make this happen and are delighted to see it now being rolled out by Balfour Beatty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;Limiting the exposure of our workforce to errant vehicles&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Andy Whitmill, CPS service delivery director said: &#8220;In limiting the exposure of our workforce to errant vehicles when setting out traffic management on the live carriageway, the Automated Cone Laying Machine is an important new tool in delivering our objective of Zero Harm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It also mitigates the possibility of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openaccessgovernment.org\/musculoskeletal-function-research-2\/65809\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> musculoskeletal injuries<\/a> by removing the manual handling necessary whilst placing and removing cones.
