{"id":113198,"date":"2022-07-15T16:28:36","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T15:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=113198"},"modified":"2022-07-15T16:28:36","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T15:28:36","slug":"levelling-up-fund-round-2-bidding-begins-for-4-8bn-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/levelling-up-fund-round-2-bidding-begins-for-4-8bn-fund\/113198\/","title":{"rendered":"Levelling Up Fund Round 2: Bidding begins for \u00a34.8bn fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The government\u2019s Levelling Up Fund Round 2 has opened for bidding, allowing councils all over the country to bid for funding for projects that improve communities<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/levelling-up-fund-round-2-application-guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Applications for the Levelling Up Fund Round 2<\/a> opened for submission today (15<sup>th<\/sup> July 2022) and will close at midday on 2 August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/public-sector-procurement-lhc-group-levelling-up\/110316\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fund allows local councils- and public and private organisations in Northern Ireland- to invest directly into projects<\/a>\u00a0to improve transport connections and town centres and support cultural and historical assets.<\/p>\n<h3>The initial round of bidding provided \u00a31.7b of grants awarded to 105 projects across the UK<\/h3>\n<p>Previous successful bids from the initial round of bidding include \u2018Northolt Travel Scheme\u2019 in Ealing, which won \u00a37.2m in grants for a high-impact active travel scheme that will improve accessibility to services and employment areas, and connect Northolt to the strategic cycle, pedestrian and public transport network.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Auckland received \u00a320m to improve transport links for local people and reopen the UK\u2019s oldest suspension bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a319.9m was also awarded to West Dunbartonshire for a series of projects including revamping the Artizan Shopping Centre and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/sustainable-regeneration-of-historic-buildings\/111170\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">transforming the area\u2019s oldest building into a library and museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Omagh in Northern Ireland has received \u00a34.1m to regenerate its vacant health centre and transform it into a digital hub, creating 250 jobs and attracting local businesses and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>The 900-year-year-old Haverfordwest Castle in Pembrokeshire received \u00a317.7m for restoration works, transforming the castle into an all-weather visitor attraction and developing the potential of the river as a feature of the town centre.<\/p>\n<h3>The application process has been updated to encourage multiple bids<\/h3>\n<p>Greg Clark, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/greg-clark-appointed-secretary-of-state-for-levelling-up-housing-and-communities\/112964\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the newly appointed Secretary of State<\/a> for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am determined to press full steam ahead with levelling up communities across the United Kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Levelling Up Fund can provide the investment needed to make a project that communities have been dreaming of for years a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a change to the application process, MPs in Great Britain will now be able to provide support to two bids that benefit their constituencies, rather than only one.
