Kier<\/a> BAM<\/a> Joint Venture (KBJV) has been appointed by Babcock International Group to support delivery of the Devonport Dockyard refurb project at Devonport\u2019s 10 Dock facility in Plymouth, Devon<\/h2>\n

The Devonport dockyard refurbishment project will take place at the Devonport Royal Dockyard, the largest naval base in Western Europe. The facility has been supporting the Royal Navy for more than 300 years since 1691. The vast site covers more than 650 acres and has 15 dry docks, four miles of waterfront, 25 tidal berths and five basins.<\/p>\n

The Devonport Dockyard refurb project will support the Royal Navy\u2019s submarine maintenance programme<\/h3>\n

The project includes the demolition of existing buildings and construction of new ones to support the Royal Navy\u2019s submarine maintenance programme. A dry dock will also be redeveloped for nuclear submarines.<\/p>\n

The scope includes all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation technology<\/a> within the new dock building, a new dividing headwall within the dock, ground anchors, new service subways to support submarines in their dry dock positions.<\/p>\n

Kier BAM will adopt a sustainable approach and support social value<\/h3>\n

A sustainable approach to delivery will include focus on lean design, low carbon fuels, use of low carbon concrete<\/a>, logistics optimisation and material re-use.<\/p>\n

Kier BAM has also committed to supporting social value in projects<\/a>, via providing apprenticeships and investing in a locally based supply chain.<\/p>\n

A decade\u2019s worth of infrastructure projects at Devonport will meet the Navy\u2019s evolving requirements<\/h3>\n

The Devonport Dockyard refurb is part of a series of major infrastructure projects previously announced by Babcock, where over the next 10 years state of-the-art facilities will be developed to meet the evolving requirements of the UK\u2019s Royal Navy.<\/p>\n

KBJV has been competitively awarded the NEC4 Framework contract for the Main Works Civils scope on the 10 Dock Project. This is a Framework which provides contractual flexibility to award multiple call-off contracts to utilise construction experience under the Framework umbrella.<\/p>\n
