MPA’s Health & Safety Committee has launched a series of new resources that support Safe Working at Height, after identifying working at height as one of ‘the fatal 6’<\/a><\/h2>\n

Falls from height continue to be the single biggest cause of workplace fatalities<\/a> in the UK. According to HSE statistics<\/a>, 35 deaths by falls from height were reported in 2021\/22.<\/p>\n

Fatalities or life-changing injuries can still occur when a fall from height is less than two metres.<\/p>\n

Guide to Safe Working at Height handbook<\/h3>\n

The Guide to Safe Working at Height handbook has been produced to outline \u2018clear, simple and smart\u2019 guidance about how the potential hazards associated with work at height activities can be either eliminated or mitigated.<\/p>\n

Employee Guide for Working at Height Safely<\/h3>\n

This booklet provides advice for employees on how they can avoid danger and keep themselves and their colleagues safe<\/a> by applying the hierarchy of control for all work at height activities.<\/p>\n

MPQC Work at Height e-learning module<\/h3>\n

A free-to-access Work at Height e-learning module<\/a> has been developed by MPQC.<\/p>\n

Tony Entwistle, MPA\u2019s Health and Safety<\/a> manager said: “Even those companies who may think they have already rolled out this issue might consider re-auditing or repeating the campaign focus. Experience shows that either people begin to forget or changes aren’t fully embedded.<\/p>\n

“Why not consider carrying out a company\/site audit, working together with site staff to identify gaps and put together a scheme of planned improvements. Then, use the handbook, e-learning module and other resources to hold training sessions or discussions with your workforce and provide them with copies of the Employees\u2019 guide. Even consider running a companywide campaign week.”<\/p>\n

What are ‘the fatal 6’?<\/h3>\n

The fatal 6 are the high consequence hazards that have been the main cause of fatalities and serious injuries and incidents within the industry over the last decade.<\/p>\n
