{"id":113442,"date":"2022-07-22T11:11:08","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T10:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=113442"},"modified":"2022-07-22T11:11:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T10:11:08","slug":"kier-launches-new-tool-to-track-spend-in-areas-of-social-deprivation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/kier-launches-new-tool-to-track-spend-in-areas-of-social-deprivation\/113442\/","title":{"rendered":"Kier launches new tool to track spend in areas of social deprivation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Kier has announced the launch of a new tool- called Local Multiplier 3 (LM3) &#8211; which will track its spending in areas of social deprivation across the UK<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/social-value-goes-to-the-very-heart-of-the-built-environments-purpose\/110237\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social deprivation<\/a> tool is a &#8216;first for the UK construction industry&#8217;, and\u00a0has been developed by the New Economic Foundation and will aid the Group\u2019s ability to show and improve how it is supporting communities across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>LM3 measures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/industry-standard-in-social-value-kier-highways\/111774\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kier\u2019s<\/a> spend in areas of with high levels of deprivation as defined by the Office of National Statistics. With the new tool, Kier can track its local spend and also show the number of suppliers it has worked with in an area along with the employee count of the suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>This highlights how the spend is positively benefitting local communities and Kier can then work with clients to make sure future spend is effectively targeted.<\/p>\n<h3>Public sector suppliers to demonstrate how they are driving social value<\/h3>\n<p>The need for public sector suppliers to demonstrate their contribution to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/social-value-and-net-zero-construction-industry\/112113\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">driving social value<\/a> has been a key part of local and central government procurement since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/social-value-act-information-and-resources\/social-value-act-information-and-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social Value Act<\/a> was passed in 2012 and the government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/procurement-policy-note-0620-taking-account-of-social-value-in-the-award-of-central-government-contracts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Public Procurement Notice 06\/20<\/a> embeds this further.<\/p>\n<p>The benefit of this tool for Kier and its clients is that teams are able to pinpoint their spend and highlight where their projects have helped provide jobs and driven local spend.<\/p>\n<h3>The LM3 tool allows Kier to better allocate spending<\/h3>\n<p>Lisa Sanders, head of social sustainability at Kier Group, commented: \u201cAt Kier, we are committed to supporting local communities across the UK.
