{"id":113453,"date":"2022-07-22T14:11:28","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T13:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=113453"},"modified":"2022-07-22T14:11:28","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T13:11:28","slug":"zurich-airport-redevelopment-awarded-to-pragma-and-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/zurich-airport-redevelopment-awarded-to-pragma-and-team\/113453\/","title":{"rendered":"Zurich Airport redevelopment awarded to Pragma and team"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pragma, as part of an international consortium led by BIG and HOK, has been chosen to lead the Zurich Airport redevelopment to create a new terminal extension<\/h2>\n<p>The winning bid for the Zurich Airport redevelopment \u2013 to create a new terminal named Dock A Zone &#8211; has been won by an international consortium led by BIG and HOK. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pragmauk.com\/case-studies?category=Transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pragma<\/a> advised the team on the retail strategy for the new extension, working with The Design Solution.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/net-carbon-negative-2\/101659\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sustainable timber<\/a> will be used in recognition of Swiss construction tradition<\/h3>\n<p>The new Dock A Zone will feature two main areas -the central hub with shopping, airport services for arriving and departing passengers and vertical circulation; and the pier with the gates, waiting areas and fixed links connecting the planes.<\/p>\n<p>The Zurich Airport extension will have a robust, yet flexible structural framework specially designed to enhance the passenger experience and ease of movement through the airport terminal.<\/p>\n<p>By using locally sourced timber, the project seeks to herald a revival in the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/building-with-timber\/103171\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable wood<\/a> for major infrastructure schemes while recognising Swiss culture, heritage and its long-standing tradition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/timber-frame-west-frasers-sterlingosb-zero-green-speed-cost-offsite\/108054\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wood construction.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The control tower will be located in the centre of the new dock to create a sense of place<\/h3>\n<p>Alex Avery, Pragma CEO and project director, said: \u201cThe impressive new Zurich Airport extension will set a benchmark in the sector.
