{"id":114266,"date":"2022-08-15T10:34:19","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T09:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=114266"},"modified":"2022-08-15T10:34:19","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T09:34:19","slug":"amersham-church-refurbishment-to-improve-facilities-with-56k-hs2-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/amersham-church-refurbishment-to-improve-facilities-with-56k-hs2-grant\/114266\/","title":{"rendered":"Amersham church refurbishment to improve facilities with \u00a356k HS2 grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Amersham church refurbishment of St Michael and All Angels Church Hall will include electric vehicle charging points, LED lighting and electric water heaters<\/h2>\n<p>The Amersham church refurbishment will be funded with \u00a356,100 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/hs2funds.org.uk\/home\/community-environment-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HS2 Community &amp; Environment Fund<\/a> (CEF), aimed at providing<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/community-buildings\/106307\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> improved community facilities<\/a> for local people.<\/p>\n<p>Over 600 people a week use the Church\u2019s facilities for activities such as local pre-school, acapella, drama and yoga groups.<\/p>\n<h3>Retrofitting works will help the Church reach its zero carbon goals<\/h3>\n<p>Alongside wider refurbishments, the 100-year old St Michael and All Angels Church Hall will be retro-fitted with LED lighting and electric water heaters to help the Church reach its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/how-can-the-construction-industry-build-towards-a-net-zero-future\/114135\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">zero-carbon goals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/electrical-safety-2\/104384\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Electric vehicle charging points<\/a> will also be installed on the site for use by visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the grant will also pay to build a community garden, including planters and seating made from recycled plastics. The garden is expected to attract local wildlife and provide a relaxing environment for the public. The recycled planters are also designed to blend into the town of Amersham, which has established similar planters along the High Street.<\/p>\n<h3>Improved access will bring the Church up to modern standards<\/h3>\n<p>New emergency doors will be installed at the rear of the hall to bring the Church in line with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/improving-accessibility-pan-disability\/83539\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">modern health and safety standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Amersham church refurbishment grant will be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/industry-insight\/accessible-heritage-sites\/72723\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">improve accessibility for those with disabilities, children and pushchairs<\/a> by creating a new access point and paving to take users directly between the car park and the community hall.<\/p>\n<p>The grant will also allow the Church to build a canopy over the new ramp and a covered buggy park outside the hall to keep the weather out.<\/p>\n<p>Cathy Elliott, independent chair of the HS2 Funds, said: \u201cSt Michael and All Angels Community Church has sat in the heart of the Amersham community for the last century and HS2\u2019s sizeable investment through the Community &amp; Environment Fund will ensure the Church continues to be able to serve local people for decades to come.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The grant awarded to the Church will also be instrumental in opening up the facilities to residents from all age groups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alan Jarvis, spokesperson for St Michael and All Angels Community Church, added: \u201cWe are delighted to have received financial support from HS2 to be able to refurbish and upgrade our Community Hall for the benefit of our users.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>CEF funding is available to community groups in areas affected by the construction of HS2<\/h3>\n<p>HS2&#8217;s Community and Business Funds are administered by independent community charity Groundwork.<\/p>\n<p>In Buckinghamshire &amp;
