{"id":114435,"date":"2022-08-18T13:04:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T12:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=114435"},"modified":"2022-08-18T14:10:53","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T13:10:53","slug":"government-to-offer-training-and-support-for-social-housing-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/government-to-offer-training-and-support-for-social-housing-residents\/114435\/","title":{"rendered":"Resident Opportunities and Empowerment programme to offer training and support for social housing residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Resident Opportunities and Empowerment programme will provide training and support for social housing residents to speak up and raise issues with their landlord<\/h2>\n<p>A new Government programme will offer training and support for social housing residents to speak up and raise issues with their landlord.<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a3500,00 grant will be available through the Resident Opportunities and Empowerment programme. \u00a0This will run from Autumn 2022 to Spring 2025 and empower social housing residents across England to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/government-will-start-naming-and-shaming-failing-landlords\/114240\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hold their landlord to account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The Resident Opportunities and Empowerment programme honours commitments set out in the Social Housing White Paper<\/h3>\n<p>The training and support for social housing residents includes opportunities for residents to learn how to influence landlord decisions that affect tenants and their community.<\/p>\n<p>For example, guidance on how to form a residents panel will help residents in engaging with their landlords where services, such as repairs and maintenance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/accessibility-is-it-the-tenants-or-landlords-responsibility\/114042\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">do not meet required standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement is a key part of the government\u2019s commitment to re-balancing the relationship between tenants and landlords, set out in the Social Housing White Paper.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3500,000 grant is open to bids from organisations or partnerships in England with relevant expertise in the social housing sector and an understanding of the importance of resident empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing Eddie Hughes MP said: \u201cTenants have a right for their voices to be heard &#8211; and we want to ensure they have the tools and resources to do this.\u202f\u202fWe committed to rebalancing the relationship between social housing tenants and landlords as part of our Social Housing White Paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new grant will enable an organisation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/social-housing-residents\/103818\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expertise in the sector<\/a> to help tenants take an active role in how their home is managed.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Entry requirements for training and support<\/h3>\n<p>Applications are now open for organisations with relevant social housing sector experience to deliver the programme.
