{"id":114509,"date":"2022-08-22T12:14:12","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T11:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=114509"},"modified":"2022-08-22T12:14:12","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T11:14:12","slug":"161m-update-to-oxford-station-will-create-new-track-and-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/161m-update-to-oxford-station-will-create-new-track-and-platform\/114509\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3161m update to Oxford Station will create new track and platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A \u00a3161m update to Oxford Station will create a new track, platform and accessible entrance on the west side of the station<\/h2>\n<p>Announced by Rail Minister Wendy Morton, the \u00a3161m update to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalrail.co.uk\/stations_destinations\/OXF.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxford Station<\/a> will be completed by 2024 and will deliver quicker journeys, increased freight and passenger services and a brand new fully accessible entrance on the west side of the station.<\/p>\n<p>The update will better integrate the station into the local road networks and create an estimated 10,000 jobs in the area.<\/p>\n<h3>Improved access and capacity<\/h3>\n<p>As one of the busiest stations in the South of England, managing 8.7m passenger journeys a year pre-pandemic, the new track and platform will improve capacity at the station.<\/p>\n<p>It is hoped this increased connectivity will draw investment to both the City of Oxford and the numerous sciences, innovation, technology and business parks located across the county.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrades will play a central role increasing freight services to the equivalent of about 500 lorries per day between Southampton Ports container hub, the Midlands and North West &#8211;
