{"id":115709,"date":"2022-09-20T15:26:52","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T14:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=115709"},"modified":"2023-05-10T17:48:06","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T16:48:06","slug":"bam-installs-3d-concrete-printed-staircase-on-sighthill-bridge-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/bam-installs-3d-concrete-printed-staircase-on-sighthill-bridge-glasgow\/115709\/","title":{"rendered":"BAM installs 3D concrete printed staircase on Sighthill Bridge, Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>BAM installs Scotland&#8217;s first 3D concrete printed staircase on Sighthill Bridge across the M8 in Glasgow<\/h2>\n<p>This week, BAM craned in a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/guides-reviews\/3d-technology-concrete-construction\/99781\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D concrete printed<\/a> staircase on Sighthill Bridge on behalf of Glasgow City Council.<\/p>\n<p>The staircase will provide access to the new pedestrian and cycle bridge which, once complete, will connect Glasgow City Centre to the Sighthill area.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kOe04pGnY20\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The steps were printed by Weber Bemix, in the Netherlands, before being shipped to Scotland.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the benefits of a 3D concrete printed staircase?<\/h3>\n<p>3D printing of the bridge components allows for precision when creating a unique structure, and reduces concerns around weather, as well as the risks associated with on-site construction.<\/p>\n<p>Costs can be also kept down, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/plant-equipment-supplies-news\/waste-clay-in-cement-trial-could-reduce-carbon-by-40\/115316\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">improved carbon efficiency<\/a>, thanks to a 40% reduction in waste for the removal of moulds and materials when compared to traditional methods.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Steele, BAM contracts manager for the M8 Footbridge said,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s wonderful to see these 3D concrete printed aspects installed as this iconic bridge takes shape.
