{"id":116079,"date":"2022-09-28T08:01:04","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T07:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=116079"},"modified":"2022-09-28T08:03:43","modified_gmt":"2022-09-28T07:03:43","slug":"kex-gill-re-alignment-to-be-carried-out-by-sisk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/kex-gill-re-alignment-to-be-carried-out-by-sisk\/116079\/","title":{"rendered":"Kex Gill re-alignment to be carried out by Sisk"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Kex Gill re-alignment project on the A59 has been awarded to John Sisk &amp; Son by North Yorkshire County Council, pending funding approval from the DfT<\/h2>\n<p>The Kex Gill re-alignment on the A59 will be delivered by John Sisk &amp; Son, after their recent completion of the Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme (LPTIP) City Centre Gateways.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northyorks.gov.uk\/a59-kex-gill-re-alignment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Yorkshire County Council<\/a> has awarded preferred bidder status to Sisk pending contract award.<\/p>\n<p>This is dependent on funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) who are currently reviewing the Full Business Case with a decision expected in October.<\/p>\n<p>Sisk contractors will move on-site during December 2022 to clear the moorland by late February 2023 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/biodiversity-construction-sites\/92000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">avoid the bird nesting season<\/a>. An estimated completion date is May 2025.<\/p>\n<h3>Recent rises in inflation have impacted the Kex Gill re-alignment project funding<\/h3>\n<p>Kex Gill, between Skipton and Blubberhouses, has a history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction\/construction-technology-news\/fungi-prevents-landslips\/99144\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">landslips<\/a> and over the years there have been many unplanned and costly closures.<\/p>\n<p>These closures impact local businesses, farmers, towns and drivers on or around the A59.<br \/>\nGrant funding was awarded by the DfT at \u00a356.1m against the original budget estimate of \u00a361.6m, with the remainder to be plugged by the county council\u2019s capital reserves.<\/p>\n<p>Following tender returns, the estimated cost of the project has increased by \u00a37.2m to \u00a368.8m as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/the-impact-of-inflation-on-existing-construction-contracts\/115869\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction markets have seen a huge rise in inflation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The executive has since approved an increase in its allocated funding from \u00a35.5m to \u00a312.7m, given the DfT grant for the Kex Gill re-alignment is fixed.<\/p>\n<h3>Delivering solutions whilst preserving an environmentally sensitive area<\/h3>\n<p>Dominic Hodges, managing director UK Civils, John Sisk &amp; Son said: \u201cSisk is really excited to be delivering this strategically important road scheme in North Yorkshire.
