{"id":116295,"date":"2022-09-29T12:54:26","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T11:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=116295"},"modified":"2022-09-29T12:54:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T11:54:26","slug":"national-equity-and-inclusion-plan-for-scotland-launched-by-clf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/national-equity-and-inclusion-plan-for-scotland-launched-by-clf\/116295\/","title":{"rendered":"National Equity and Inclusion Plan for Scotland launched by CLF"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Construction Leadership Forum (CLF) has launched a National Equity and Inclusion Plan (NEIP) for the construction industry in Scotland to encourage a more diverse workforce<\/h2>\n<p>Funded by Scottish Government, this National Equity and Inclusion Plan is part of a wider transformation of the industry, building connections with a wider talent pool to address labour shortages and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/sustainability-gender-equality-and-bim\/111362\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">support growth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The initiative seeks to address imbalances by mainstreaming equity and inclusion<\/h3>\n<p>Figures from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/scotlands-labour-market-people-places-regions-statistics-annual-population-survey-2020-21\/pages\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Annual Population Survey 2020<\/a> show that there is a gender pay gap in the construction industry of 23% and women account for only 15.4% of the sector\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of construction workers who are from a minority ethnic background is only 1.6%, compared to.3% of minority ethnic workers in Scotland as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Figures show 10.5% of the workforce are disabled, 33% of the construction workforce are aged 50+ and only 2.7% of starts in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/architecture-apprenticeships\/103656\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">modern apprentices<\/a> were female.<\/p>\n<p>The Plan sets out \u201cSix by 2026\u201d strategic aims which the CLF commits to work with industry to achieve.<\/p>\n<p>These aims include the sharing of best practice across industry, using data and industry feedback to benchmark progress, signposting to a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/diversity-and-inclusion\/103895\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resources for companies to access<\/a>, and development of industry-wide E&amp;I accreditation.<\/p>\n<h3>The aims of the National Equity and Inclusion Plan for Scotland were developed with industry experts<\/h3>\n<p>The Plan was developed following an in-depth study by GenAnalytics.<\/p>\n<p>This study assessed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction\/bim-news\/5-major-challenges-in-construction\/114387\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">challenges currently facing the sector<\/a> and what best practice there is from inside and outside the sector.<\/p>\n<p>It was informed by a wide stakeholder group including E&amp;I experts, industry, and government and found that construction falls way short of equality and inclusion standards compared to other sectors and identified a number of sector-specific issues to be addressed by the Plan.<\/p>\n<h3>Creating a more resilient workforce and sustainable economy for Scotland<\/h3>\n<p>Business Minister and Construction Leadership Forum chair Ivan McKee said: \u201cI recognise that we face new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/industry-reacts-to-liz-truss-stamp-duty-tax-cut\/115800\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">economic and social challenges of an unprecedented scale<\/a>. This plan aims to support wider efforts to address inequality and promote greater diversity within the Scottish construction sector to encourage inclusive growth and help address labour shortages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompanies with better records of fair work, equity and inclusion do better, have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/construction-managers-help-workers-poor-mental-health\/112881\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">healthier and more engaged workforce<\/a> and demonstrate greater diversity of thought.
