{"id":117727,"date":"2022-10-31T10:43:17","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T10:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=117727"},"modified":"2023-05-02T19:35:59","modified_gmt":"2023-05-02T18:35:59","slug":"new-mental-health-inpatient-facility-ayrshire-delivered-kier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-mental-health-inpatient-facility-ayrshire-delivered-kier\/117727\/","title":{"rendered":"New mental health inpatient facility in Ayrshire to be delivered by Kier"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Kier has been selected by NHS Ayrshire &amp; Arran to deliver Foxgrove, a new mental health inpatient facility at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine<\/h2>\n<p>The new mental health inpatient facility in Ayrshire will be the first of its kind in Scotland, a medium secure adolescent inpatient service for young people aged 12-18.<\/p>\n<p>The development was procured through the <a href=\"https:\/\/frameworks-scotland.scot.nhs.uk\/frameworks-scotland-3-the-role-of-health-facilities-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health Facilities Scotland Framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The building will include a timber frame with insulation panels<\/h3>\n<p>The inpatient unit will be for young people who have complex difficulties and require a higher level of care.<\/p>\n<p>It will allow these patients to be cared for nearer to their homes and to receive appropriate care, treatment, therapies, security and on-going education.<\/p>\n<p>The new unit will comprise of 12 en-suite bedrooms, a dining area, recreational areas including a gym and sports barn, external relaxation and horticultural areas, therapy and education space, as well as staff areas including accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Externally, there are numerous areas for patient therapies.<\/p>\n<p>The building is a timber frame with rendered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/how-can-structural-insulated-panels-sips-achieve-compliance-with-part-l-for-home-improvements\/113812\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">insulation panels<\/a> and facing brick forming the envelope with a Kalzip roof.<\/p>\n<h3>The mental health inpatient facility in Ayrshire development will deliver social value throughout construction<\/h3>\n<p>Mental wellbeing minister Kevin Stewart said: \u201cI am pleased that the Scottish Government has been able to provide funding of over \u00a316m to allow this national facility to be built for young people with complex needs and mental health conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will help ensure children and teenagers are being given care in the most appropriate setting for their needs. I look forward to seeing how the build progresses and develops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phil McDowell, regional director at Kier Construction North &amp; Scotland said: \u201cThis is such an important project, and the first of its kind in Scotland.
