{"id":117891,"date":"2022-11-03T08:30:01","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T08:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=117891"},"modified":"2022-11-03T10:25:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T10:25:03","slug":"cobuilder-hosts-hackathon-construction-software-vendors-industry-stakeholders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/cobuilder-hosts-hackathon-construction-software-vendors-industry-stakeholders\/117891\/","title":{"rendered":"Cobuilder hosts hackathon to unite construction software vendors and industry stakeholders"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Cobuilder has announced that it is hosting a hackathon on the 8th and 9th November, for UK-based construction software vendors and other related industry stakeholders<\/h2>\n<p>Participants can either take part in the hackathon in person, at Cargo Works in London or join the event virtually via a video link.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of Cobuilder\u2019s hackathon is to provide participants with a walkthrough of the latest version of its Define Templates API service, support them in connecting to the data dictionary and enable the free flow of standardised data within their systems and solutions.<\/p>\n<h3>Industry stakeholders will be able to see in practice how Define can help their clients solve issues with environmental data<\/h3>\n<p>During the hackathon, participants will explore a use case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction\/bim-news\/new-international-standard-environmental-data-in-bim\/112192\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">querying environmental data<\/a> and Cobuilder\u2019s experts will demonstrate how environmental product declaration (EPD) properties for various building components can be accessed to obtain the necessary information for life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations.<\/p>\n<p>By attending, industry stakeholders will be able to see in practice how Define can help their clients solve issues with environmental data by structuring it in the same format and enabling its use through common data models.<\/p>\n<h3>About Define and the APIs<\/h3>\n<p>Define is a data dictionary that enables organisations to implement a common digital language based on standards. Its creation and use in construction is a prerequisite for the adoption of modern digital technologies, such as machine learning, the internet of things, artificial intelligence and more.<\/p>\n<p>Define Templates API enables users to integrate with various external systems or digital solutions. Through it, they can access common data structures, called data templates, and the properties developed in the data dictionary. This facilitates the export of high-quality, trusted data approved by experts and structured according to industry standards.<\/p>\n<h3>Benefits for software vendors and their clients<\/h3>\n<p>By integrating with a standard-based data dictionary, such as Define, software vendors can expand their core value proposition by enabling a common machine- and human-readable digital language as part of their construction data software \u2013 be it 3D-object libraries, PIM and CDEs or BIM authoring tools.<\/p>\n<p>Antony Brophy, UK director of business development at Cobuilder said: \u201cThe hackathon is a great way for people to see first-hand why they should consider implementing a common digital language.
