{"id":118282,"date":"2022-11-11T11:17:34","date_gmt":"2022-11-11T11:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=118282"},"modified":"2023-05-02T19:42:50","modified_gmt":"2023-05-02T18:42:50","slug":"300m-blackpool-central-regeneration-project-announced-dluhc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/300m-blackpool-central-regeneration-project-announced-dluhc\/118282\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3300m Blackpool Central regeneration project announced by DLUHC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A previously stalled private sector-led \u00a3300m Blackpool Central regeneration scheme will go ahead after the DLUHC has committed \u00a340m to relocate the Magistrates and County Courts<\/h2>\n<p>Levelling up secretary Michael Gove has announced that a Blackpool Central regeneration project will now go ahead, after funding issues stalled the development.<\/p>\n<p>The Blackpool Central project had stalled because there was no funding to move the Magistrates and County Courts currently situated within the proposed site.<\/p>\n<h3>Blackpool Central will be the largest single investment in Blackpool for over a century<\/h3>\n<p>It will see the area transformed into a year-round leisure destination, with new entertainment centres, hotels, restaurants and a new public square and Heritage Quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Blackpool Central&#8217;s regeneration will create an estimated 1,000 jobs and could bring as many as 600,000 more visitors to the seaside town each year, boosting the local economy.<\/p>\n<h3>The resolution of the court&#8217;s issue means the project can go ahead<\/h3>\n<p>Government has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/public-sector-procurement-lhc-group-levelling-up\/110316\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">working with local partners<\/a> throughout the development&#8217;s initial process, including the local authority and developers <a href=\"https:\/\/nikal.uk.com\/project\/blackpool-central\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates and County Courts will be relocated to a state-of-the-art complex in the Blackpool town centre, with the specific location to be announced.<\/p>\n<h3>The Blackpool Central regeneration will bring jobs, investment and visitors<\/h3>\n<p>Levelling up secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/michael-gove-returns-department-of-levelling-up-housing-and-communities\/117535\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Gove<\/a> said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Blackpool is a town full of life, energy, and immense potential but for too long it has been overlooked and its communities undervalued. Our \u00a340 million Levelling Up investment will revitalise this great town by delivering much-needed homes, more jobs and new opportunities for local people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Deputy prime minister, lord chancellor and secretary of state for justice, Dominic Raab, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new Magistrates\u2019 and County Court will be modern, efficient, and help deliver effective justice for local residents. It will be fitted with the latest courtroom technology to ensure that we can continue delivering justice in the North West and provide victims with a better experience.<\/p>\n<p>This wider investment will provide a real boost to the town and its economy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/government-regeneration-scheme\/104714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kickstarting the regeneration<\/a> that local people have long been waiting for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Lynn Williams, leader of Blackpool Council, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted by the support to enable our exciting scheme to go ahead. This is a real example of joined-up Government at its very best with the objectives of the government, Ministry of Justice, Department for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/tracking-the-progress-of-the-levelling-up-regeneration-bill\/113590\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Levelling Up<\/a>, Blackpool Council and the developer Nikal all being met as a result of this welcome action by the secretary of state.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The funding will enable this huge development in the heart of Blackpool to bring jobs, investment and visitors to our town.
