{"id":118560,"date":"2022-11-18T08:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T08:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=118560"},"modified":"2022-11-18T16:35:12","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T16:35:12","slug":"what-the-nhqbs-code-of-practice-covers-for-new-builds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/what-the-nhqbs-code-of-practice-covers-for-new-builds\/118560\/","title":{"rendered":"What the NHQB&#8217;s Code of Practice covers for new builds"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Build Warranty\u00ae Group attended Parliament, Tuesday, 1<sup>st<\/sup> November, for the launch of the NHQB&#8217;s Code of Practice, a not-for-profit organisation solely funded by house developers\u2019 registration fees which are charged annually and calculated according to developers\u2019 size and company turnover<\/h2>\n<p>This new framework came into effect in January 2022, eventually replacing the existing code of practice, the Consumer Code for Homebuilders.<\/p>\n<h3>Protecting home buyers by promoting a single national Consumer Code and Housing Ombudsman service<\/h3>\n<p>Mr Andrew Dyson, CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/stakeholders\/welcome-to-build-warranty\/117895\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Build Warranty\u00ae<\/a> commented: \u201cWe wanted to be in Westminster today and were pleased to personally assure Rt Hon Lucy Frazer MP, the new Minister of State in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, that we at Build Warranty\u00ae wholeheartedly support this initiative to protect home buyers by promoting a single national Consumer Code and Housing Ombudsman service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It accepted that the previous code of practice wasn\u2019t promoted to prospective new home<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>buyers and, as a result, received a total of only 889 complaints over its eleven years of existence, with 54% of complainants succeeding in part (35%) or count (18%) resulting in awards averaged just 10% of the amount claimed.<\/p>\n<h3>60% of all new homes across the country are formally registered to work with the NHQB<\/h3>\n<p>More than 100 developers, including many, if not most, of the largest developers responsible for upwards of 60% of all new homes across the country, are formally registered to work with the NHQB.<\/p>\n<p>However, membership in the NHQB is voluntary and provides house developers with a platform to showcase their quality and customer service credentials.<\/p>\n<p>Leading warranty providers, like Build Warranty\u00ae Group, will no longer be responsible to operate consumer codes and Build Warranty\u00ae will instead encourage developers to be registered with NHQB.<\/p>\n<h3>How can Build Warranty help?<\/h3>\n<p>Build Warranty\u00ae is an established structural warranty provider.
