{"id":119800,"date":"2023-01-05T14:49:12","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T14:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=119800"},"modified":"2023-01-05T14:49:12","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T14:49:12","slug":"ciobs-revamped-global-student-challenge-open-2023-entries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/ciobs-revamped-global-student-challenge-open-2023-entries\/119800\/","title":{"rendered":"CIOB&#8217;s revamped Global Student Challenge open for 2023 entries"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Chartered Institute of Building\u2019s (CIOB) Global Student Challenge is celebrating its tenth year with a new virtual platform to test competitors&#8217; skills<\/h2>\n<p>CIOB\u2019s new and improved <a href=\"https:\/\/gsc.ciob.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Student Challenge<\/a> competition is now open for 2023 entries.<\/p>\n<p>Open to teams around the world,\u00a041 teams from 18 universities and colleagues entered the 2022 competition, which was won by a team from Tongji University, China, who described the experience as a \u201cbreath-taking adventure\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>The challenge sees students plan and deliver a fictional cosntruction project<\/h3>\n<p>The competition, which has been running for more than a decade, requires teams of students studying for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/using-tech-to-drive-more-sustainable-building-industry\/118246\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">built environment qualifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They must demonstrate creative thinking, business planning, entrepreneurial spirit and communication skills to ultimately reach the final and compete against other teams for the coveted Global Student Challenge title.<\/p>\n<p>The winning team will be rewarded with an all-expenses paid trip to CIOB Members\u2019 Forum in the UK to test their ideas in front of some of the world\u2019s finest construction professionals, and importantly gain feedback they can learn from. They will also receive a \u00a32,000 cash prize.<\/p>\n<h3>This year&#8217;s challenge features an online platform used by real world clients<\/h3>\n<p>The 2023 challenge will use a new online platform called Sim Venture Validate, which is currently used by a wide range of universities for various subjects to build employability and enterprise skills in curricular and extra-curricular learning environments.<\/p>\n<p>It is also used by corporate clients for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/retrofit-skills-revolution-ashden\/117973\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">employee skills development<\/a> and business innovation activities, making it an ideal platform to test CIOB\u2019s Global Student Challenge entrants.<\/p>\n<h3>The Global Student Challenge develops student skills that can become a career<\/h3>\n<p>Kate MacBeth, marketing director at CIOB, said: \u201cWe\u2019re really excited to be launching this year\u2019s Global Student Challenge with its new look. The technology now available to us will provide an even more valuable experience for students than our previous setup &#8211; really testing their limits and unleashing their creativity. It opens the door more fully for them to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/fixing-the-construction-skills-shortage-with-better-careers-advice\/116123\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">think outside the box<\/a> but will also test their analytical and technical skills too, so it\u2019s set to be our toughest challenge yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a decade students from around the world have taken on each other to claim the famous Global Student Challenge title, many of whom are now enjoying fantastic careers in the industry and have made connections that will stand them in good stead in the future. We can\u2019t wait to start receiving entries for 2023 and seeing which team will come out on top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Registration closes on January 30 with the competition taking place between February and April.
