{"id":119847,"date":"2023-01-06T16:26:08","date_gmt":"2023-01-06T16:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=119847"},"modified":"2023-01-06T16:26:08","modified_gmt":"2023-01-06T16:26:08","slug":"women-in-construction-and-hbf-employment-programme-to-address-gender-imbalance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/women-in-construction-and-hbf-employment-programme-to-address-gender-imbalance\/119847\/","title":{"rendered":"New Home Building Employment programme to address gender imbalance in construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Home Building employment programme, developed by Women into Construction and the Home Builders Federation (HBF), will offer funding support for childcare and training<\/h2>\n<p>With just 16% of the construction workforce being female, it is hoped that a new Home Building employment programme from the Home Builders Federation and Women into Construction will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/why-are-we-failing-to-attract-young-people-and-women-in-construction\/116062\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">help more women get into the industry.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The Home Building employment programme is a nationwide scheme<\/h3>\n<p>Working closely with employers Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes, Cala Homes,The Hill Group, Keepmoat, Persimmon Homes, Redrow, St. Modwen and Vistry Group, the project hopes to attract women into site management roles, offering a unique funded programme that will provide support with childcare and training costs to make the opportunity more accessible.<\/p>\n<h3>The Home Building employment programme will include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Site visits (central locations and online)<\/li>\n<li>A week of online insight and development sessions, including Q&amp;As with site managers and employers, and employability and health and safety training<\/li>\n<li>Two-week work placement on site<\/li>\n<li>1-2-1 coaching and support from Women into Construction<\/li>\n<li>The work placements will take place at employer sites across England, offering participants first-hand experience of the site manager role and how they could help the industry deliver much needed homes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Women interested in this exciting opportunity are <a href=\"https:\/\/women-into-construction.org\/women-into-home-building-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">invited to register<\/a> to attend an online information session at 11am on Tuesday 31 January 2023. At the event, they will learn more about the programme and meet the employers involved, including current site managers from across the country.<\/p>\n<h3>Bringing more women into construction will alleviate the skills shortage<\/h3>\n<p>Jacqui Wordsworth, Women into Construction\u2019s business development director, said: \u201cWith women representing just 4% of site managers, we want to inspire and encourage more women to take up a career in home building \u2013 helping us and our employer partners to change the face of construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Herdman, director for HBF\u2019s Home Building Skills Partnership, adds: \u201cThe home building industry is facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/causeway-construction-talk-podcast-digitalisation-skills\/112107\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">significant skills shortage<\/a>.
