Bellway<\/a> has been appointed to construct 124 new homes.<\/p>\nMorgan Sindall will deliver the conversion of a former building society into a specialist Mathematics School<\/h3>\n
Leeds Mathematics School is the first of the developments in the North to be announced. Leeds Building Society was vacated in Spring 2022, and relocated to a new head office on the Headrow.<\/p>\n
Leeds Mathematics School (LMaS) will provide a specialist Post-16 A Level curriculum, emphasising Mathematics and maths-based subjects.<\/p>\n
LMaS will be one of the 11 planned regional 16-19 specialist maths schools in a government manifesto pledge to enable mathematically abled students to succeed in\u00a0maths disciplines at top universities and pursue mathematically intensive careers.<\/p>\n
The school is a partnership between The GORSE Academies Trust and The University of Leeds<\/h4>\n
LMaS will open in September 2023, and employ around 28\u00a0full-time equivalent (FTE) staff for 240 students aged between 16 and 19.<\/p>\n

McLaren Property will build a multi-occupied workspace in Leeds City Centre<\/h3>\n
In the city centre, Leeds City Council has approved plans submitted by McLaren Property to build a\u00a0multi\u2010occupied workspace development.<\/p>\n
The 330,000 sq. ft. office scheme will provide 17 storeys of Grade A office accommodation with a range of workspaces.<\/p>\n
Once complete, the building will be the largest workspace building built in the city<\/h4>\n
The development has been described as a ‘game changer for the office market’. It will focus on attracting occupiers who value high-quality service and the opportunity to collaborate with like\u2010minded businesses.<\/p>\n
Oliver Westray, development director for McLaren Property, commented: \u201cWe are delighted to receive approval for our plans for Wellington Street and thank Leeds City Council for their enthusiasm for the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have focused on designing a forward\u2010thinking, tech\u2010enabled development with large efficient floor plates that will attract both indigenous occupiers and inward movers. We are excited to progress with our plans following approval and look forward to seeing this major scheme come to fruition for Leeds.\u201d<\/p>\n
The development will feature a roof terrace, a high-end gym, and underground car parking accommodating 110 spaces plus commercial units for flexible use on the ground floor.<\/p>\n
The build will span 30 months, with McLaren hoping to commence construction by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Bellway given the green light for new housing development in Newcastle<\/h3>\n
Meanwhile, in Newcastle, Bellway has been given the green light for a new housing development off Westmorland Road by Newcastle City Council. Bellway will be constructing 79 homes, while Amethyst Homes will be building the remaining 45 properties.<\/p>\n
The project has been facilitated by Tynexe, which has carried out the necessary reclamation works to prepare the land for development. Two-four-bedroomed houses will be built on the 12-acre site using modern methods of construction (MMC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n68 of the houses will be fitted with solar roof panels to generate renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n
