Building registration is a major step in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/what-we-need-to-know-about-new-legislation-from-the-building-safety-act\/118595\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a package of measures to ensure high-rise residential buildings are safe<\/a> for residents and users.<\/p>\n<p>Under the<a href=\"https:\/\/buildingsafety.campaign.gov.uk\/?utm_source=wordpress&amp;utm_medium=press-release&amp;utm_campaign=bsr&amp;utm_content=campaign-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Building Safety Act<\/a>, high-rise residential buildings which are 18 metres tall or higher, or at least seven storeys, with two or more residential units are defined as \u2018higher-risk\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3>HSE aims to raise awareness of the new legal requirements<\/h3>\n<p>The move is the latest in the HSE&#8217;s &#8216;Be Ready&#8217; campaign, aiming to educate and inform owners and managers of high-rise residential buildings of their new legal duties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content addtoany_content_top\">\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 addtoany_list\" data-a2a-url=\"https:\/\/press.hse.gov.uk\/2023\/02\/27\/new-regulator-takes-major-step-forward-in-landmark-moment-for-building-safety\/\" data-a2a-title=\"New regulator takes major step forward in \u2018landmark moment for building safety\u2019\">The registration process is a crucial stage in setting up the new building safety regime.\u00a0 Registering buildings in scope will be a legal requirement and owners and managers who fail to comply by October 2023 will be investigated and may face prosecution.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>The Building Safety Regulator is part of a new safety regime<\/h3>\n<p>HSE chief executive Sarah Albon said: \u201cThis registration process is an important step towards building a safer future for residents of high-rise buildings. We want it to be clear where responsibility for safety in these buildings lies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Building Safety Regulator, we will draw from our experience to provide guidance and oversight for the industry and lay the foundation for a world-leading building safety regime, which is a part of our mission to protect people and places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chief inspector of Buildings Peter Baker said: \u201cOur message is clear \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/how-is-the-building-safety-act-rewriting-history-for-construction-companies\/120104\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> industry must raise its standards<\/a> and residents of high-rise buildings in England must be kept safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a landmark moment for building safety, the information provided through registration will be an invaluable part of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/building-safety-act-do-safer-buildings-mean-a-better-construction-industry\/118933\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crackdown on unsafe building practices<\/a>.
