{"id":122728,"date":"2023-03-14T11:24:54","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T11:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=122728"},"modified":"2023-08-03T10:27:43","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:27:43","slug":"apm-for-economic-stablility-become-priority-spring-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/apm-for-economic-stablility-become-priority-spring-budget\/122728\/","title":{"rendered":"APM calls for economic stability to become &#8216;priority&#8217; in Spring Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apm.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association for Project Management (APM)<\/a> has warned that greater economic and political stability needs to be addressed ahead of the Spring Budget to ensure the successful delivery of projects in the UK<\/h2>\n<p>Ahead of the Spring Budget, due to be announced on 15 March, APM has called on the government to factor the concerns of project professionals into its economic plans.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Spring Budget comes after a year of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/construction-industry-reacts-bank-of-england-interest-rate-rises-4-inflationary-pressures\/120737\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high inflation and economic uncertainty<\/a> together with the current cost of living crisis in the UK.<\/p>\n<h3>APM carried out a survey of 100 project professionals<\/h3>\n<p>APM has carried out a survey of 100 senior project professionals working on projects across government policies, transformation and service delivery, Levelling Up, infrastructure and net zero, to get a sense of the profession\u2019s levels of concern.<\/p>\n<p>The survey indicated a level of general concern among project and programme professionals with regard to the economy, the labour market and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/seven-issues-that-will-affect-supply-chains-in-2023\/119926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> supply chain issues<\/a> in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>91% of project professionals polled say they are concerned about the impact of ongoing economic instability on their main project. Of these, 58% say they are very concerned and a third say they are somewhat concerned.<\/p>\n<p>The impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/7-top-tips-for-de-risking-the-construction-supply-chain\/118185\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supply chain issues<\/a> on projects are also a source of worry, with 92% expressing a level of concern \u2013 over half of project professionals say they\u2019re somewhat concerned, and 40% say they are very concerned about the current situation of supply issues in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>There are also concerns over shortages in the UK labour market, with a total of 87% expressing concerns.\u00a0Just 13% say they have few concerns or no concerns about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/labour-shortage-inflation-slowing-build-to-rent-growth\/120978\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> labour shortages and its impact<\/a> on their project.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 88% of people surveyed said their main project was aligned to at least one government policy, making the success of these projects crucial to the government\u2019s ability to deliver these policies.<\/p>\n<p>45% said their project was linked to transformation and service delivery, and 33% said their main project was linked to the Levelling Up programme.<\/p>\n<h3>Projects need economic stability to ensure successful delivery<\/h3>\n<p>Andrew Baldwin, head of public affairs at APM, commented: \u201cWe know an environment of stability and certainty is vital to ensure the successful delivery of projects \u2013 especially those that are supporting government initiatives. This survey is a demonstration of that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the Government to focus this year\u2019s budget on delivering economic stability and certainty.
