however, uptake has been slow due to a lack of accessibility to chargepoints.<\/p>\n<p>Urban Fox offers a solution to local authorities seeking a whole life solution to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhbcfoundation.org\/publication\/plugging-in-to-the-future-electric-vehicle-charging-and-new-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chargepoint installation<\/a>&#8211; funding, building, operating and maintaining chargepoints of varying speeds.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"132wBJvYXjQ\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Urban Fox\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/132wBJvYXjQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3>The pop-up chargepoints are discrete and accessible<\/h3>\n<p>Installed into the pavement, the 7kW unit is fully retractable underground, preventing pavements from feeling cluttered when not in use, whilst remaining easily accessible.<\/p>\n<p>The ease of access and installation of these pop-up chargepoints aims to meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/nhbc-report-electric-vehicle-charging\/99719\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">growing demand for electric vehicle support<\/a>, especially in public spaces, as 43% of British households do not have access to off-street parking.<\/p>\n<h3>The launch follows a successful scheme of pop-up chargepoints<\/h3>\n<p>A five year pilot from Urban Fox indicated that retractable chargers could be installed in c. 80% of streets, with the units tested across Oxford, Dundee and Plymouth City Councils, as well as Staffordshire County Council.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Flynn, convener of Dundee City Council\u2019s city development committee, said: \u201cLast year when we commissioned these on street residential chargers through a combination of funding, including local and Scottish Government, we wanted to start breaking down some of the barriers to owning and running an electric vehicle; in particular, recognising that more than half of the city\u2019s homes don\u2019t have access to off street parking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By putting these chargers at seven locations spread across the Maryfield, Lochee and West End wards, we are making a start.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Balfour Beatty investment in alternate energy sources is vital to achieving net zero<\/h3>\n<p>The investment and installation strategy will aid local authorities in reaching the green targets as set out in the UK Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/featured\/getting-electric-vehicle-transition-strategies-right-blue-light-services\/121031\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electric Vehicle Infrastructure<\/a> Strategy \u201cTaking Charge\u201d in creating a convenient network of chargepoints across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Gavin Russell, CEO Balfour Beatty Investments, commented \u201cIn order to achieve the Government\u2019s 2050 Net Zero strategy, it\u2019s imperative that alternative energy sources are widely available and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBalfour Beatty\u2019s close and long-standing relationships with local authorities across the length and breadth of the UK make us well able to tackle the challenge head on;
