new transport links and hydrogen-powered trucks are being developed<\/h2>\n<p>The transport investment schemes, worth \u00a3143m, will bring new transport connections and climate friendly vehicles to Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Transport minister Richard Holden visited Glasgow today (3 April 2023) to see new hydrogen-powered and self-driving trucks, which are intended to make UK roads both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/government-outlines-multi-billion-energy-revolution-energy-security-day\/123799\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safer and more sustainable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The transport minister also met with local businesses and communities to explore how investment in road schemes, railway lines and domestic flights between Scotland and the rest of the UK could boost connectivity and stimulate economic growth.<\/p>\n<h3>Ravenscraig, Dundee and Fair Isle will all benefit from the transport investment<\/h3>\n<p>Minister Holden also had a tour of new transport links in Ravenscraig and the surrounding areas, which has received \u00a3127m investment jointly funded by the UK government, Scottish Government and North Lanarkshire Council.<\/p>\n<p>This investment will improve connectivity to local towns and cities, support new employment opportunities and encourage more people to walk and cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The regeneration of the Ravenscraig site is estimated to generate 4,600 construction jobs in follow-on development and generate \u00a3626m for the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>This funding is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgow.gov.uk\/councillorsandcommittees\/viewSelectedDocument.asp?c=P62AFQDNDN0GT1Z3DX#:~:text=The%20Glasgow%20City%20Region%20City%20Deal%20is%20an,and%20growth%20and%20address%20challenges%20in%20the%20region%E2%80%99s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow Region City Deal<\/a>, which saw over \u00a31bn committed for major infrastructure projects in Glasgow and the surrounding areas comprising funding from the UK and Scottish governments.<\/p>\n<h3>Boosting innovation and business in Scotland with sustainable tech<\/h3>\n<p>UK government minister for Scotland, John Lamont said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/kier-to-explore-hydrogen-fuelled-net-zero-depots-feasibility\/120033\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hydrogen-powered and self-driving trucks<\/a> being developed in Glasgow, the regeneration of Ravenscraig\u2019s road, rail, cycling and walking infrastructure, a new ferry to save Fair Isle, to a green transport hub in Dundee, we are working to improve people\u2019s journeys, boost economic growth and protect the environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But there\u2019s more to be done and we are committed to continue working closely with the Scottish Government and local partners to deliver the benefits travellers want and businesses need.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div
