{"id":124271,"date":"2023-04-07T07:00:59","date_gmt":"2023-04-07T06:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=124271"},"modified":"2023-04-06T15:48:06","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T14:48:06","slug":"300-council-construction-workers-strike-in-dundee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/uncategorized\/300-council-construction-workers-strike-in-dundee\/124271\/","title":{"rendered":"300 council construction workers strike in Dundee"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>More than 300 council construction workers in Dundee began striking this week (April 4), and industrial action is set to continue for three weeks<\/h2>\n<p>The strike is in response to local issues raised relating to vehicle trackers and the Council\u2019s Telematics Policy, the use of subcontractors for public works, issues with call-out payments and with management at the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dundeecity.gov.uk\/service-area\/neighbourhood-services\/housing-and-construction\/construction-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Council\u2019s Construction Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The strike action is due to continue daily until Friday 28th April, with further strike action planned until 23rd June.<\/p>\n<h3>What services will be affected?<\/h3>\n<p>Services suspended during this period are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-emergency reactive repairs to housing and council buildings;<\/li>\n<li>Capital works;<\/li>\n<li>Lift servicing and maintenance;<\/li>\n<li>External cyclical maintenance;<\/li>\n<li>Disabled adaptations;<\/li>\n<li>Electrical communal supply;<\/li>\n<li>Various planned works across the Council\u2019s multi-storey properties;<\/li>\n<li>Relet works;<\/li>\n<li>Electrical inspections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Residents should continue to report their repairs via the Customer Service Team and using Dundee City Council&#8217;s online service, however, delays should be expected.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services will continue, including emergency repairs to housing and properties, and gas servicing.<\/p>\n<h3>What is Dundee City Council doing to resolve the industrial action?<\/h3>\n<p>According to Dundee City Council, the installation of vehicle trackers have been installed in its fleet for a number of years to safeguard staff, manage its fleet as efficiently as possible and ensure best value in terms of service delivery to the residents of Dundee.<\/p>\n<p>Trade Unions have raised concerns about the use of subcontractors to support the delivery of services;
